BFC, as part of the BAUER construction division, is a leader in the execution of complex excavation pits, ground improvement, deep foundations, and vertical seals, utilizing advanced equipment and installation techniques. Bauer Foundation Corp. provides foundation solutions and services for industrial, commercial, residential, and governmental construction projects throughout the United States.

BFC is seeking an experienced and strategic Corporate Safety Manager to lead the company’s safety, health, and risk management programs across its operations and project locations. This position will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership while driving consistent field execution, regulatory compliance, and a strong companywide safety culture.

Job Summary

The Corporate Safety Manager manages the day-to-day administration and improvement of BFC’s safety and health programs. The role provides guidance to project teams, coordinates training, inspections and incident response, and monitors compliance with applicable requirements and company standards. The Manager partners with Operations, Project Management, Human Resources and leadership to identify hazards, follow through on corrective actions and improve safety performance across projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and professional development to BFC’s Safety team.
• Lead, mentor, and oversee a team of site safety managers, safety officers, coordinators, and other safety professionals.
• Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability for field inspections, audits, training, incident investigations, corrective actions, and other safety activities.
• Evaluate organizational safety staffing and resources to support project and operational requirements.
• Collaborate with project managers, operations leaders, and executives to integrate safety requirements into bidding, project planning, mobilization, and daily field execution.
• Promote consistent application of BFC safety standards, policies, and expectations across all projects and locations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve companywide safety policies, procedures, programs, and the BFC Safety Manual.
• Serve as the primary safety advisor to executive and senior leadership regarding safety performance, risk exposure, regulatory requirements, significant incidents, and emerging safety matters.
• Provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure consistent implementation of BFC safety standards across projects, jobsites, and operating locations.
• Proactively identify safety risks, trends, and areas of organizational exposure and develop practical corrective and preventive strategies.
• Establish and monitor companywide safety objectives, performance measures, leading and lagging indicators, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead or oversee root-cause analysis for significant accidents, injuries, near-misses, and other serious incidents; ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are developed, implemented, and verified.
• Develop, oversee, and continuously improve safety training programs for employees, supervisors, managers, project leadership, and other applicable personnel.
• Develop and implement initiatives that reinforce safe behaviors, employee engagement, leadership accountability, and BFC’s overall safety culture.
• Conduct and oversee field inspections, safety audits, compliance assessments, and other evaluations to identify hazards, verify program effectiveness, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Maintain current knowledge of applicable OSHA standards, EM 385-1-1 requirements, EPA requirements, DOT regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local construction and industrial safety requirements.
• Ensure appropriate safety recordkeeping, regulatory reporting, documentation, and compliance processes are established and maintained.
• Oversee workers’ compensation and injury management activities and partner with insurance carriers, claims administrators, Human Resources, and operational leadership to manage claims and support effective return-to-work processes.
• Partner with Operations, Project Management, Human Resources, and other departments to reduce injuries, incidents, claims, and organizational risk.
• Analyze safety performance data, leading and lagging indicators, incident trends, audit findings, and other relevant information to establish priorities and provide meaningful reporting and recommendations to leadership.
• Prepare and present regular safety performance reports, dashboards, trends, and recommendations to executive and senior leadership.
• Support project teams in evaluating and addressing complex, high-risk, or unusual safety matters, including project-specific regulatory and operational requirements.
• Calculate and monitor key performance indicators (TRIR, DART) and maintain the OSHA 300A annual summaries and OSHA 301 incident reports.
• Participate in project planning, estimating, preconstruction, mobilization, and operational discussions when safety risks or requirements warrant corporate Safety involvement.
• Establish processes to ensure lessons learned from incidents, audits, and field observations are communicated and incorporated into companywide safety programs and practices.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and records related to safety activities, investigations, training, compliance, audits, and corrective actions.
• Represent BFC, as appropriate, in interactions with OSHA, other regulatory agencies, clients, contractors, insurance representatives, and other external stakeholders regarding safety matters.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction-industry safety requirements.
• Knowledge of applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence employees, field leadership, project management, operations, senior management, and executive leadership.
• Ability to translate regulatory and safety requirements into practical, field-oriented processes, programs, and solutions.
• Strong understanding of construction risk management, hazard identification, incident prevention, and corrective action processes.
• Advanced skills in incident investigation, root-cause analysis, risk assessment, safety performance analysis, and data interpretation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively influence stakeholders from the field through the executive level.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver effective training and communicate complex safety matters to both field and executive audiences.
• Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across geographically dispersed projects and locations.
• Ability to work collaboratively across functional and operational teams while maintaining appropriate accountability for safety expectations and performance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and applicable safety management systems and reporting platforms.
• High degree of integrity, sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion, with the ability to operate in accordance with BFC’s Code of Ethics and Business Policies.
• Ability to travel domestically on a regular basis based on project and operational needs.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish preferred.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered.
• At least 7 years of progressive construction safety experience, including at least 3 years in a safety leadership or management role.
• Professional safety designation such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) strongly preferred.
• Heavy civil construction, deep foundation, geotechnical, specialty foundation, or similarly high-risk construction experience strongly preferred.
• Experience developing, implementing, administering, and continuously improving construction safety programs, policies, procedures, and training.
• Experience supervising or guiding safety professionals across multiple projects preferred.
• Experience developing and monitoring safety performance metrics and reporting safety performance to senior or executive leadership.
• Experience conducting or overseeing significant incident investigations and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Experience interacting with OSHA and/or other regulatory agencies preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform work in both a professional office environment and active construction-site environments.
• Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, climb, and navigate active project sites, including uneven terrain, for extended periods.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and access active work areas as necessary to perform inspections, observations, and assessments.
• Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
• Ability to see and hear within normal parameters, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds as required.
• Ability to work in environments that may include exposure to construction equipment, noise, dust, weather conditions, uneven terrain, and other conditions commonly associated with heavy civil construction.
