The Department of Medicine seeks a Clinical Research Coordinator I to participate in an innovative program in cardiovascular disease research and clinical trials supported by the NIH and foundations. The individual will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to implement clinical trial protocols. Primary duties will entail that the Clinical Research Coordinator screens potential research participants; recruits participants; conducts informed consent; engages in administration of study procedures either in person or remotely; and enters relevant data into web-based interfaces for data entry and capture. This member of the study team will travel to multiple clinics in the Pittsburgh, PA, region, and interface with clinical and research staff.

Specific responsibilities are:

1. Have a comprehensive understanding of research objectives and prescreen research study participants accurately and consistently by applying inclusion and exclusion criteria.

2. Conduct procedures according to standardized protocols. Activities include discussing research aims and activities with community members and potential participants, conduct of informed consent, and administration of study-related measures and assessments.

3. Engage with partner collaborative sites with professionalism.

4. Participate in community engagement and collaborative activities. Duties may include attending health fairs for recruitment or assisting in presenting the research to community members.

5. Serve as a member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team and contribute to fostering a culture of integrity.

6. Maintain rigorous attention to clinical trial implementation, including accurate and comprehensive data entry and operational procedures.

7. Participate in communication with multiple internal and external partners and research program collaborators under the supervision of team leadership.

Job Summary

Assists with and adheres to Institutional Review Board (IRB) renewal, modification, and approved protocols. Recruits research subjects and conducts interviews and research assessments.

Essential Functions

The successful Clinical Research Coordinator will demonstrate a high level of engagement, focus on adherence to protocols and integrity of research methods, and have excellent communication skills to interact with research participants, collaborating investigators, administrative staff, and staff and health care providers at clinical sites. The candidate will have a commitment towards community engagement and advancement of cardiovascular disease prevention with lifestyle and behavioral interventions. Professionalism is a requirement, as is the capacity to work independently at community sites for specified durations.

Physical Effort

Must be able to move between university offices and multiple clinical sites in the Pittsburgh area. May require periods of walking and standing.
