Clinical Research Coordinator III

Med-Neurological Surgery - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26005773)

Assist with daily human subjects experiments (lab or participant homes) — health monitoring, questionnaires, equipment setup for neural recording/stimulation, video monitoring, execution of experiments, Document experiments in daily test log, Run core clinical trial experiments independently; basic hardware/software troubleshooting, Provide skin care for percutaneous neuroprosthetic devices; train caregivers on skin care around devices, Supervise visitors/collaborators observing or participating in experiments, Professional interaction with research participants; Ensure personnel/equipment readiness for daily experiments; Ensure experiments conducted per University, IRB, and FDA regulations.

Track milestones/deliverables for ongoing projects, facilitate meetings and information sharing, identify risks to study completion, Coordinate reporting; serve as primary point of contact for collaborators, Assist PIs/Operations Manager with visitor coordination, materials transfer agreements, data sharing agreements.

Lab and physical space management (preparing, maintaining, organizing), Develop software/hardware to facilitate experiments or documentation, test all equipment/paradigms prior to participant arrival, navigate code/configuration versions using Git, Coordinate study staff/trainee coverage; maintain lab wiki and written protocols, Communicate with participants/families regarding scheduling, Schedule equipment service calls

Data management: transfer data to lab server, summarize for scientific/regulatory reports, Lead efforts to fulfill data sharing requirements (funding/publication), Train new team members; evaluate readiness to lead experiments, run data analysis scripts to generate figures, liaise between participants, trainees, and regulatory/fiscal staff, provide information for scientific/regulatory reporting, Assist with participant payments/reimbursements


Job Summary

Prepares grant applications, manuscripts, Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, research papers, and assists with complex research papers. Audits research studies, monitors study budgets, resolves complex data collection issues, and implements protocol-specific study recruitment plans. Trains staff and oversees student workers; leads team meetings. Monitors study budgets and orders supplies.


Essential Functions

The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Neurological Surgery, is hiring a Clinical Research Coordinator III. This position manages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions for clinical trial management. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of operating a human neuroprosthetics research laboratory focused on sensorimotor neuroscience and the restoration of motor function, as well as management of grant and project-related milestones, deliverables, and reporting requirements. Primary duties include clinical trial management and ensuring milestones are met in time as well as complying to FDA timelines and regulation, this include managing the team of researchers and engineers to ensure timely execution of clinical and scientific outcomes, monitoring participant reports and basic health characteristics, maintaining inventory of clinical supplies, writing SOPs, tracking grant milestones and deliverables, contributing to grant/project reports, leading data sharing efforts, and ensuring experiments comply with University, IRB, and FDA policies. Preference given to candidates with human subjects clinical research experience.

Minimum education to be considered for this position is a master's degree in engineering, biology, neuroscience, or related field or a bachelor's degree in engineering, biology, neuroscience, or related field with 2 years of relevant experience.
