We are seeking a Sales Associate (Building Materials) to join our team in Port Carling. Reporting to the Store Manager or designate, this role manages the sales cycle from initial inquiry to delivery. Key Responsibilities:
As the Sales Associate (Building Materials), you will ensure the accurate and professional execution of sales and store operations. In this role, you will:
- Serve as the primary customer contact - handling inquiries, preparing quotes/orders, providing professional support, and driving sales through upselling, cross-selling, and lead follow-up.
- Coordinate end-to-end project execution with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely, accurate delivery.
- Maintain strong product and process knowledge to prepare accurate quotes, work orders, pricing, and documentation.
- Resolve customer issues by investigating concerns, actively listening, recommending solutions, and escalating as required.
- Perform administrative tasks and maintain accurate updates in order-tracking systems to support communication across sites while keeping well-organized records.
- Support store operations and standards by maintaining housekeeping, assisting with stocking shelves, and monitoring stock levels.
- Follow all health, safety, and company policies to maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work environment.
- Foster a customer-focused, inclusive environment by collaborating effectively with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and other stakeholders.
What you bring:
At Muskoka Lumber, we look for professionals who balance technical proficiency with a customer-centric mindset. Required skills, abilities, and attributes:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent; related post-secondary education, apprenticeship, or relevant experience in building construction.
- 1–2 years of experience working in sales/customer service, preferably in retail lumber, construction, or manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of lumber, building materials, and industry-specific products and applications.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, time management, and record-keeping skills, with the ability to quickly and independently learn new products and workflows.
- Experience with CRM or sales software (e.g., Bistrack, Beanworks, Microsoft Office Suite) or a willingness to learn.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate courtesy and tact, and work well in a team environment.
- Physical ability to perform essential duties, including extended periods of sitting, walking, standing, and lifting up to 50 lbs (and occasionally up to 80 lbs) to maneuver inventory.
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification is considered an asset.
