Position Summary

The Analytics Engineer is responsible for all stages of the data and analytics lifecycle: understanding business objectives, gathering and translating requirements into technical solutions, designing and developing robust SQL code and ETL pipelines, and deploying analytics assets across both on-premises and cloud platforms. This role is pivotal in enabling data-driven decision-making by building, optimizing, and maintaining scalable data models, reports, and dashboards in accordance with industry best practices and organizational standards. Collaborates with business and technology departments to understand system data and its use, data analysis and validation, and providing support around the data and how it is integrated. Monitors production systems for issues and resolves issues or elevate them for resolution when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, and optimizes complex SQL code and ETL processes to support data integration, transformation, and reporting needs across multiple healthcare data systems, including but not limited to Epic and non-Epic platforms

• Uses various software applications such as SSMS, Postgres databases, Microsoft Fabric cloud warehousing and ETL tools, spreadsheets, data visualization software, and other Business Intelligence applications to assemble, manipulate and/or format data

• Develops logical data models and presentation solutions using best practices within business intelligence and analytics environments

• Creates, maintains, and documents scalable data models, reports, and dashboards using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, Crystal Reports)

• Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to understand data requirements, validate data, and ensure data integrity and security

• Troubleshoots and resolves issues in production data pipelines and analytics solutions, escalating as necessary

• Translates concepts and directions into practical solutions

• Maintains and develops documentation to identify and define processes or procedures

• Creates and Modifies documentation and data documentation within appropriate tool set (e.g., Microsoft Purview) in accordance with governance standards

• Participates in after hours on-call, on-call rotation and service recovery efforts as required

• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function

• Performs other related duties as assigned

• Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent education/experience required

• Minimum 5 years of analytics experience required, with at least 3 years focused on advanced SQL code writing and ETL development required

• Epic Caboodle and Clarity certification/accreditation required or obtained within 90 days of hire; must remain current in certification thereafter

• Preference for at least one additional Epic data model certification/accreditation (Clinical Data Model, Revenue Data Model, Access Data Model, etc.)

• Other required system application training/certifications to complete assigned work as necessary

• Experience with ETL tools strongly preferred (SSIS, Data Factory, etc.)

• Data Visualization experience using a variety of BI tools preferred (Power BI, SSRS)

• Comprehensive understanding of clinical or business principles to evaluate information system and healthcare regulatory needs

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and customer expectations independently

• Skilled at tracking tasks, following processes, documenting progress, defining next steps, identifying owners, and maintaining personal accountability
