Job Description
CSS, Inc. is looking for a qualified candidate to support the Fisheries Statistics Division (FSD) of NOAA's Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC). This individual will provide data management, analytical, and scientific support.
Responsibilities
- Distribute, receive, quality control, and finalize commercial fishermen's logbooks that are required to be submitted to the SEFSC
- Support FERS Registration of Permit holders and e-Trip application testing
- Assist in the analysis and extraction of logbook data using SQL and standard statistical programs such as SAS or R
- Participate in outreach events such as Open Houses, Youth/Career Fairs, etc. in order to explain logbook program goals and methods to the public
- Present, facilitate, or participate in various electronic logbook reporting related workshops, scientific and technological meetings, symposiums, and public forums.
Qualifications
- MS Degree in Marine Science or a related field; OR BS Degree plus three years of relevant experience.
- Proficient with common word processing, database, statistical, and graphics software.
- Knowledge of SQL and standard statistical programs such as SAS or R
- Ability to apply basic concepts, principles and methodologies to independently perform scientific tasks using standard methods and techniques
- Experience collecting catch and effort information from commercial fishers preferred
- Ability to pass a National Agency Check (NACI) and maintain it throughout the duration of employment.
