Job Description

Safety Express Ltd, an Aramsco Company, has been serving its clients for over 35 years in the Abatement, Restoration, Industrial Safety, Professional Cleaning and Surface Preparation market. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic team player to join our dynamic team as a Buyer.

OBJECTIVE

To help our team succeed, our Purchasing Department must be able to work in a very fast-paced environment that is constantly changing and reacting to the needs of our customers. The Buyer is required to manage the inventory in the company’s branches, including but not limited to manage the inflow of products and transfers to other branches. In rare but important situations, additional hours are expected on short notice to fulfill an influx of orders due to flooding, fires and or other catastrophes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Inventory Management:

  • Manage replenishment daily.
  • Execute Planned Purchasing daily for all vendors as assigned.
  • Responsible for purchasing from overseas vendors for container products.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining container update spreadsheets and weekly communication of inbound containers to Branches and Accounts Payable.
  • Manage internal branch transfers to ensure efficient inventory allocation.
  • Watch movement and forecast inventory levels.
  • Manage inventory dollars and turns.
  • Maximize gross margin through vendor selection and minimize freight expenses.
  • Manage the product life cycle to reduce obsolete inventory.
  • Support inventory operations by ensuring timely returns to vendor.
  • Support the Inventory and Operations Co-Ordinator during holidays for coverage with daily cycle counts, and stock adjustments as required.

Product Receiving:

  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of product from vendors.
  • Expedite product for rush orders and vendor back orders daily.
  • Initiate alternative sources/vendors when required.
  • Follow up and add notes to outstanding purchase orders daily.

Non-Stock Products and Imports:

  • Manage buying/flow of non-stock products with sales, inside reps and product managers.
  • Ensure smooth execution of imports from PO through product flow and import documentation.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Work cooperatively with the parent company’s replenishment team to meet local and national needs.
  • Work with Accounts Payable to reconcile discrepancies with vendors for pricing and quantity variances.
  • Work with Branch Managers and Accounts Payable to process vendor returns and credits.
  • Participate and support vendor rationalization, product consolidation, and re-categorizing initiatives.
  • Manage local vendor relationships where appropriate.

Team Participation and Compliance:

  • Actively participate in team meetings and operation calls to share best practices and discuss process improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in projects as required.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and Company code of Ethics.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform any other projects/duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary in Supply Chain Management or similar field an asset
  • Minimum 2 years’ buying experience in distribution is preferred.
  • Fully bilingual in English and French.
  • Knowledge of SQL would be an asset.
  • Experience with Streamline/Tecsys ERP system is an asset.
  • Demonstrate a “fire in the belly” attitude, the initiative to take the time to learn product offerings, and the desire to take advantage of training opportunities provided by the company.
  • A self-starter that is extremely motivated and someone who can work with minimum supervision.
  • The ability to multitask and work with the larger team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills
  • Sourcing and vendor negotiations would be an asset.
