Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an Executive Producer, News for the video team, based at WSJ headquarters in New York.

This position calls for a deeply experienced editorial leader with exceptional production and management skills and the ability to drive fast-moving coverage of news. The ideal candidate will be decisive, collaborative, and deeply invested in producing exceptional content. You understand storytelling, pacing and building audience connection, and also know how to bring out the best in producers, reporters and correspondents. You also have strong ideas around how audiences today, and future audiences want to engage with news.

You will work closely with colleagues across the newsroom to deliver distinctive, revelatory and news-making journalism across day-of and breaking news and analytical features. You'll shape ideas, push creative and build compelling news formats.

This is both a leadership and hands-on role.

You will:
  • Lead and mentor a news team in New York, fostering collaboration, growth and innovation.
  • Drive coverage of daily and breaking news, as well as news analysis.
  • Ensure quick and accurate delivery of all news assets - from clips to reporter videos to reporter analysis.
  • Shape and refine story ideas, scripts and edits to ensure high production values and the highest journalistic standards.
  • Collaborate with newsroom leaders and reporting teams to build news pieces and partner to align and complement our overall editorial offering and strategy.
  • Partner with strategy, product and audience teams to develop distinctive news video formats that resonate with audiences.
  • Build relationships with the global newsroom in order to develop a more video-forward way of thinking.
  • Constantly evaluate our video journalism with an eye for building new methods of storytelling.


You have:
  • 10+ years' experience in a daily video news environment.
  • Exceptional editorial judgment, communication and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Strong script-writing and editing experience under tight deadlines.
  • A track record of producing distinctive current affairs, business and geopolitical coverage, plus a sharp eye for stories that resonate with WSJ's audience.
  • Experience with video series development and production, ideally around news content.
  • Experience building a strategic news vision across coverage areas and formats.
  • Experience working with reporters and correspondents to develop a voice and on-camera style.
  • An impeccable eye for the smallest details.
  • The ability to foster and facilitate the personal development of team members.
  • Experience running field teams preferred.
