Are you an experienced Patient Care Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment where accuracy, collaboration, and expertise truly matter?

At Intrepidus Surgical Institute, you’ll work alongside a dynamic team of anesthesia providers, surgeons, and healthcare professionals supporting high-quality outpatient ophthalmologic and vision surgical procedures. We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and detail-oriented Patient Care Assistant to help ensure patients receive required treatments, serve as eyes and ears for the clinical team, and support patient comfort.

Compensation

$20.00 – $22.00 per hour
Compensation is based on experience, certifications, and overall qualifications.

Requirements:

As a key member of our Patient Care team, you will perform a range of duties to ensure patient comfort, including:

Patient Care

  • Pre-operative tasks:
    • Make phone calls notifying patients of surgical arrival times
    • Escorting patients from waiting rooms to exam rooms
    • Taking vital signs, such as temperature and blood pressure, and charting results in each patient’s medical record
    • Verifying patient information
    • Ensuring patient needs such as handling patient belongings, blankets, temperature comfort, etc.
  • Post-operative tasks:
    • Locate family for updates
    • Provide food and drink as needed
    • Monitor vitals and remove any IVs
    • Observe and monitor for changes in patient symptoms, whether in mood, behavior, or physical condition
    • Escort patient from facility
  • Ensure food and beverages for patients is available and stocked
  • Help patients perform hygienic and personal tasks

Administrative & Team Support

  • Restocking surgical and patient room supplies
  • Empty linen baskets and make patient beds
  • Clean/sanitize work areas
  • Collects specimens as directed by the nursing staff
  • Other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
  • Minimum GED or High school diploma
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Minimum of one-year previous experience in a healthcare or caregiving facility working directly with patients
  • A caring and respectful attitude toward clients of all backgrounds
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Reliability and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Good written, oral, organizational, and basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNA/PCA certification
  • Associate’s degree or higher

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Full-Time | Non-Exempt
  • Monday–Thursday
  • 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Schedule may vary based on surgical case load and operational needs

Job conditions

This role is based within a professional Ambulatory Surgery Center environment, with job duties not expected to be actively performed in the surgical suite. This position does require the employee to maintain physical tolerance, to include standing/walking/working for the duration of their shift with minimal breaks, the ability to lift/push/pull/support up to 50lbs of weight while assisting patients to/from wheelchairs, the bathroom, transfers, etc. as well as the need to bend, stoop, twist, crouch or kneel. The position also includes some computer and telephonic work, collaboration with clinical and administrative teams, and movement throughout the facility.
