Job Description

Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Summer Maintenance Support position is a seasonal role on The Overlake School Facilities team, active during the summer months (June - August) when the campus undergoes its most intensive cycle of maintenance, renovation, deep cleaning, and grounds work. This position draws from the same skill set and standards as the Maintenance Technician role — adapted for a seasonal context — and is essential to ensuring Overlake's 75-acre campus and 200,000 square feet of buildings are safe, clean, and fully ready for the return of students and staff each fall.

Summer Maintenance Support staff are full members of the Facilities team during their tenure, expected to bring the same work ethic, resourcefulness, professionalism, and community spirit as any Overlake employee. They are supervised directly by the Director or Assistant Director of Facilities.

Compensation: $20-$22/hr based on experience

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Building & Grounds Maintenance

  • Assist with a wide range of interior and exterior maintenance tasks including painting, drywall repair, carpentry, and basic plumbing and electrical work under supervision.
  • Perform deep-cleaning and restoration of classrooms, offices, common areas, athletic facilities, and outdoor spaces.
  • Perform comprehensive grounds maintenance: mowing, edging, trimming, mulching, weeding, and debris removal across the full campus.
  • Move, reconfigure, and install furniture and equipment throughout buildings as directed.
  • Support assigned preventative maintenance tasks — lubrication, filter replacement, equipment checks — and document completions in FMX (training provided).
  • Assist with summer renovation and construction projects as directed; maintain clean and organized maintenance storage areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Treat all materials and school resources with care — resourcefulness and responsible use are core expectations of this team.
  • Practice active campus stewardship at all times: pick up trash, address minor issues on the spot, and flag anything that needs follow-up; the entire campus is everyone's responsibility.

Events, Safety & Community

  • Assist with setup and breakdown for summer programs, orientations, and campus events; respond to maintenance requests from summer program staff and administration promptly and professionally.
  • Support shipping, receiving, and delivery of equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Follow all LOTO and safety protocols; know emergency procedures and evacuation routes for your work areas; complete all assigned safety training on schedule.
  • Understand your obligations as a school employee working around minors: maintain appropriate professional conduct and know mandatory reporting requirements; ask your supervisor if ever uncertain.
  • Log and document completed tasks in FMX; check school email and Teams at least twice per day when a school account is assigned.
  • Engage with the campus community — faculty, staff, and summer program participants — with warmth, respect, and professionalism; represent the Facilities team positively through your attitude, appearance, and quality of work.
  • Participate in daily team check-ins and briefings; contribute as a team-first collaborator throughout your tenure.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or current enrollment in high school, trade, or vocational program.
  • Work ethic: Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in summer conditions throughout the full assignment.
  • Technology: Basic email and MS Office familiarity; willingness to learn facilities software required.
  • Other: Must pass a background check; must be at least 18 years of age (or meet Washington State work permit requirements if younger).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical: Prior grounds maintenance, construction, painting, or related trade experience; commercial grounds equipment operation (mowers, blowers, tractors).
  • Other: Valid driver's license; interest in pursuing a career in facilities management, the building trades, or campus operations.
