Job Description

Description:
  • Process union and non-union payrolls in a timely and precise manner. Maintain and update highly confidential employee records.
  • Administer and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations for tax withholdings, benefits deductions, wage garnishments, and required government filings.
  • Serve as the point of contact for employee inquiries for payroll inquiries. Immediately review and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and manage year-end payroll and benefits reporting accurately and on time. Prepare for and participate in audits, internal and external. Prepare payroll and benefits reconciliations along with reports for accounting.
Requirements:

Preferred Education / Experience:

· Associate’s degree in business or related field,

· Payroll Professional certification (CPP),

· 3+ years of payroll processing and benefit administration experience, or

· A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

· Multi-state payroll including federal and state payroll knowledge preferred

· Experience with Paylocity or other payroll systems

· Comprehensive working knowledge of Payroll Functions, including Payroll Administration/Taxes, Policies/Procedures, Payroll System Administration and Legal Compliance including Federal/State Wage & Hour Laws, FMLA/Paid Family Leave, Health Care Reform Act, ERISA, Unemployment and Tax Laws

· Strong communication and organizational skills with a high attention to detail

· Ability to work and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment

· Strong critical thinking skills and analytical abilities to resolve issues

· Commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with personal information, compensation, and benefit information

· Excellent proficiency within Microsoft products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

· Ability to travel to subsidiary locations on the Great Lakes on an occasional basis

· Previous experience working within the Marine Transportation industry a plus
