Position SummaryMystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Physics Teacher to instruct students in Grades 7–12, with a primary focus on high school college-preparatory, Honors, and International Baccalaureate (IB) physics courses.
The successful candidate will deliver engaging, rigorous instruction through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, laboratory investigations, classroom discussions, and hands-on learning experiences. Candidates should possess a strong foundation in physics, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to helping students develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Essential Responsibilities- Plan and deliver high-quality physics instruction aligned with school curriculum and academic standards.
- Teach college-preparatory, Honors, and/or IB Physics courses using a combination of lectures, demonstrations, laboratory investigations, and collaborative learning activities.
- Design and implement engaging laboratory experiences while ensuring a safe learning environment.
- Assess student understanding through quizzes, exams, laboratory reports, projects, and other formative and summative assessments.
- Analyze student performance data and adjust instruction to maximize student achievement.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, assessments, and student progress.
- Monitor and supervise students during laboratory activities, ensuring proper use of equipment and adherence to safety procedures.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding academic progress and student success.
- Foster a classroom environment that supports students' academic, intellectual, and personal growth.
- Collaborate with department members and school leadership to strengthen curriculum and instructional practices.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school committees.
- Provide extra academic support to students outside of regular class time as needed.
- Perform additional duties that support school operations, including exam proctoring, study hall supervision, lunch duty, classroom coverage, and teaching MCAS mathematics preparation courses when assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Physical Science, or a closely related field required; degree in Physics preferred.
- Massachusetts Physics (MTEL) licensure or the ability to obtain appropriate licensure.
- Strong content knowledge in physics and laboratory instruction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to engage students through clear instruction, effective classroom management, and hands-on learning.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
- Commitment to maintaining high academic expectations and supporting student achievement.
