Job Description
City Care is searching for the right person with a knack for seeing great potential in others and working as part of a team with the shared goal of motivating change toward that potential. The Shift Lead will understand the complexity of the intersection of poverty, homelessness, mental illness, and substance use for our neighbors experiencing homelessness while providing leadership and operational support during assigned shelter shifts.
The Shift Lead plays a key role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and professionally operated shelter environment through direct guest engagement, staff support, and oversight of daily shelter operations. Requirements:Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Carry out the mission, vision, and values of City Care
- Provide on-shift leadership, direction, and support to shelter staff, volunteers, and interns
- Facilitate scheduled opening and closing duties for facilities
- Ensure a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for guests, staff, interns, volunteers, and collaborative partners
- Lead in a team culture of hospitality, confidentiality, teamwork, accountability, and safety
- Engage guests in receiving services that support stabilization and housing outcomes
- Assist in de-escalation and crisis response while maintaining trauma-informed care practices
- Ensure shelter policies and procedures are followed consistently
- Complete daily reporting duties accurately and on time
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry in spreadsheets and the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)
- Support communication between shifts and leadership teams
- Maintain awareness of community resources and develop collaborative partnerships to support guest needs
- Assist with training and mentoring new staff as directed
- Monitor facility operations and respond appropriately to urgent situations as they arise.
Required Skills:
- Skilled in verbal and written communication
- Computer-literate with the ability to complete accurate and error-free data entry
- Ability to multitask and handle stressful or complex situations with professionalism
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to accomplish shared goals
- Current Oklahoma Driver’s License
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to pass pre-employment background check, driving record review, and UA screening
Must be able to work scheduled hours: 4:30pm-12:30am
Preferred Skills:
- Professional experience navigating mental and physical health systems, benefits, and community resources
- Experience in shelter operations, crisis intervention, or case management
- BHCM-I or II certification
- PRSS Certification
