ACCOUNTCLERK
DEPARTMENT: Finance
SALARY: $36,936 - $49,579
LOCATION: Trenton, NJ
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30PM, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break.
REPORTSTO: County ChiefFinancial Officer

POSITIONOVERVIEW:
MercerCounty Finance Department is seeking a detail-oriented and organized individualto serve as an Account Clerk supporting accounting, payroll, and pensionfunctions.
TheAccount Clerk will perform a variety of clerical and administrative dutiesinvolving financial records, employee information, payroll processing, pensionadministration, data entry, spreadsheets, and related accounting functions. Theposition will work closely with payroll and pension functions and require ahigh level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
Priorexperience or knowledge of payroll and pension functions is preferred but notrequired. Candidates should have the ability and willingness to learn Countypayroll and pension procedures, systems, and requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Payroll Administration
- Assisting with payroll preparation and processing.
- Reviewing payroll information for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintaining and updating employee payroll records.
Pension Administration
- Assisting with pension administration and maintaining pension-related records.
- Assisting with audits and payroll and pension reporting requirements.
Accounting & Financial Support
- Assisting with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting functions as assigned.
- Preparing spreadsheets, reports, reconciliations, and other financial documents.
- Reviewing and reconciling payroll, pension, and accounting information.
Data & Records Management
- Entering, verifying, and maintaining financial and employee data.
- Researching and resolving discrepancies involving payroll, pension, accounting, and employee records.
Confidentiality & GeneralAdministration
- Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive employee, payroll, pension, and financial information.
- Performing other related accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Highschool diploma or equivalent required. One (1) year of experience inaccounting, bookkeeping, finance, payroll, or a related administrative positionis preferred.
Anassociate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration,human resources, or a related field is preferred but not required.
EXPERIENCE:
Payroll/Pension
- Knowledgeof or experience with payroll and pension functions is preferred but notrequired.
Computer Skills
- Workingknowledge of Microsoft Excel is required. Candidates should be comfortable withdata entry, organizing information, sorting and filtering data, basic formulas,and creating and maintaining spreadsheets.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of basic accounting and financial recordkeeping principles.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to accurately enter, review, and maintain financial and employee information.
- Ability to work with numerical and financial information.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidential payroll, pension, employee, and financial information.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, County departments, payroll personnel, pension administrators, and other parties.
- Ability to learn payroll and pension procedures, systems, and applicable requirements.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
