Location: Chesterfield, VA
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Shift: 1st Shift, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM
Starting Pay: $24.00/hour — higher pay available depending on experience
Travel: Required as needed; per diem and overtime provided for qualifying travel
Seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic to handle repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.
Travel may be required to support other locations, training, meetings, preventive maintenance projects, or emergency repair work, including equipment repair at derailment sites.
Responsibilities- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.
- Complete preventive maintenance and repair assignments based on daily priorities.
- Work with the Shop Foreman to coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and help minimize downtime.
- Complete work orders accurately, including mileage, operating hours, dates, and repair details.
- Document repairs clearly and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Escalate emergency repair needs and major mechanical issues when necessary.
- Maintain tools, shop equipment, and work areas in an organized condition.
- Work collaboratively with other mechanics and team members to complete repairs efficiently.
- Follow all applicable safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
- 5+ years of maintenance experience with heavy equipment and/or track equipment, trailers, cranes, or similar machinery.
- At least 5 years of experience in two or more additional technical areas, such as:
- Hydraulics
- Electronics
- Small engines
- Air conditioning
- Other related mechanical systems
- High school diploma/GED plus trade school, dealership, or factory training in diesel mechanical repair/maintenance equivalent to an associate-level technical education.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Hands-on experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and respond with urgency when needed.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Travel to other locations may be required.
- Travel may include emergency repair work, preventive maintenance, training, seminars, and meetings.
- Mechanics may travel to repair cranes or other equipment at derailment sites or provide maintenance support at locations without a dedicated mechanic.
- Per diem and overtime are provided for qualifying travel assignments.
- Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, climbing, and reaching.
- Ability to carry tools, materials, and mechanical parts.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work extended hours when required.
- Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
- Assistance is required for items weighing more than 75 lbs. or items that present ergonomic challenges.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- Training and experience equivalent to 2 years of technical/vocational education and 5 years of hands-on heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
- Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair are preferred.
- Additional certifications may be required based on assigned responsibilities.
