The Landscape Maintenance Supervisor has primary responsibility of monitoring, coordinating, and inspecting the work of contractors engaged in the maintenance and construction of City-owned landscaped areas, such as parks, playgrounds, median islands, cemetery grounds, or other public right-of-way, and the landscape adjacent to City buildings and facilities.
The Landscape Maintenance Supervisor will:
- Supervise landscape maintenance crews and contracted service providers
- Oversee parks, athletic fields, landscaped areas, irrigation systems, and tree maintenance programs
- Administer the City's Urban Forest Program
- Manage Weed Abatement and Brush Clearance programs
- Assist with budget preparation and contract administration
- Develop policies, procedures, and employee training programs
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintenance specifications
- Respond to service requests and emergency situations
The Landscape Maintenance Supervisor will supervise lower-level staff and provide technical direction. Work hours are generally Monday through Thursday (38-hour work week) between 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The Landscape Maintenance Supervisor will attend Commission and Committee meetings in the evenings, and other evening/weekend meetings or special events as required.
We are looking for someone who has:
Strong supervisory and team-building skills.
Extensive knowledge of horticulture, arboriculture, and landscape maintenance.
Experience with irrigation systems, controllers, and water conservation practices.
Contract administration and project management experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A commitment to safety, customer service, and operational excellence.
The ability to inspire staff and foster high performance.
Experience:
Four or more years of increasingly responsible maintenance, landscape, tree, and/or contract administration work which included at least two years of responsible supervisory experience.
Three or more years of experience as a Certified Arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture.
Education:
Two years of vocational or college level training with an emphasis in urban horticulture, landscape maintenance, arboriculture, or a related field. A Bachelor's Degree is desirable.
License or Certificate:
Required at time of hire:
Valid California Class C Drivers’ License and good driver record are required.
Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture is required at time of hire.
Desirable:
Municipal Specialist from the International Society of Arboriculture is desirable.
Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (ISA TRAQ) is desirable.
Required within first year of employment:
Qualified Applicator Certificate required within six months of employment.
TRAQ credential required within twelve months of employment.
Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certificate may be required after hire as determined necessary by the Community Services Director. If so decided, incumbents will be notified and provided adequate notice to complete.
