This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Control Tester & Advisor – Data & AI Governance based in Canada.
This role sits at the intersection of risk, control assurance, and emerging technology governance, with a strong focus on Data and AI ecosystems. You will be responsible for evaluating the design and effectiveness of key controls across data management and AI lifecycle processes, ensuring that governance frameworks are properly implemented and consistently operating as intended. In addition to testing responsibilities, you will act as a trusted advisor to business and technology teams, helping them strengthen control design, improve risk mitigation, and align with governance standards. The position requires strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex technical and governance artifacts into clear risk insights. You will also collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to support continuous improvement in data and AI governance practices. - Execute design effectiveness and operating effectiveness testing of controls related to Data Governance and AI Governance, including data quality, AI lifecycle controls, and ethical AI frameworks
- Develop and document detailed test plans, scripts, and methodologies aligned with risk and control frameworks
- Perform sampling, reperformance, and evidence validation to assess control execution and reliability
- Conduct end-to-end process walkthroughs with stakeholders to map control environments and identify key risks
- Analyze governance artifacts such as policies, data lineage, metadata, and AI model documentation to assess adequacy and compliance
- Identify, document, and communicate control deficiencies, including root cause analysis and risk implications
- Provide advisory guidance on control design improvements, governance best practices, and risk mitigation strategies
- Collaborate with business, technology, and risk teams to support risk assessments and governance initiatives
- Maintain high-quality documentation of testing workpapers, findings, and recommendations
- Contribute to continuous improvement of data and AI governance testing and advisory methodologies
Requirements:
- 3–5 years of experience in control testing, audit, risk management, governance, or advisory roles
- Experience performing control design and operating effectiveness testing in complex environments
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and control evaluation frameworks
- Ability to analyze technical, regulatory, and governance documentation with strong critical thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clear articulation of risk issues and recommendations
- Professional certifications such as CISA, CRISC, or CGRC required (CDMP or AIGP considered an asset)
- Experience or strong interest in Data Governance, AI Governance, or Technology Risk
- Familiarity with data management concepts and AI/ML lifecycle processes is highly valued
- Ability to balance independent testing responsibilities with advisory and stakeholder collaboration
