Position Summary: Familiarity with shipyard operations or shipboard safety protocols is a plus.
In preparation for a potential award, TruWay is initiating interviews to ensure personnel are ready to begin work immediately upon contract start. TruWay Staffing Services is hiring an experienced Supervisor to lead teams of Fire Watch and Tank Watch personnel at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY). This position is in support of a federal contract and requires direct oversight of daily work assignments, training, safety compliance, performance monitoring, and workforce scheduling. Supervisors are expected to remain physically available to staff at all times during assigned shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
In accordance with PWS (Performance Work Statement) the Supervisor shall:
- Manage contractor employees’ assignments to training, ships, shifts of work, discipline, safety, rewards, promotion, attendance, time-off (i.e., sick and/or annual leave) and work performance.
- Provide adequate supervision to oversee the assigned contractor personnel and ensure the proper execution of the jobs described herein to include trade specific proficiency testing.
- Must be physically available to the workforce at all times.
- Ensure daily onboard counts of mechanics are reported to the NNSY Designated Representative electronically via e-mail at least once per week.
- Maintain accurate tracking of hours worked by contractor personnel.
- Maintain total program oversight of contractor personnel.
- Manage assignment of contractor personnel to training, shifts and projects.
- Provide overall management, oversight and supervision (and/or lead workers) to effectively and safely manage the work of this requirement including trade specific proficiency testing.
- Resolve contractor personnel problems i.e., conflict resolution and administrative actions (all contractor disciplinary actions requiring written documentation shall be reported to Project Manager via email) affecting the contractor’s employees.
- In the absence of the Supervisor the Project Manager shall fulfill the duties as outlined for Contractor Supervisor
Work Schedule Details
Multiple shift availability required:
- 1st Shift: 0720–1600
- 2nd Shift: 1530–2400
- 3rd Shift: 2330–0740
Supervisors must adjust to seasonal shift changes and support rotating schedules, extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years supervisory experience in a shipyard, federal facility, or industrial environment
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 1915, 1926 (provide certs)
- Familiarity with NAVSEA safety standards, including 009-74 and hot work/fire safety
- Ability to manage timekeeping, personnel performance, and shift compliance
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills
- Physically capable of climbing ladders, wearing PPE, and working in tanks/voids
- Must pass background check and drug screen
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior DoD or Navy contract experience
- Fire Watch or Confined Space Supervisor Certification
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Familiarity with electronic timekeeping and labor tracking tools
