About This Position

Position Summary:

Responsible for managing all aspects of a Harms Oil Truck Shop to ensure alignment with the General Manager of Transportation on the execution of objectives. This includes management of technicians, outside vendor management, repair processes, safety awareness, and an effective preventative maintenance program for the fleet in a defined area. Maintains and grows positive, customer-centric relationships within and outside the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Continually focuses on achieving market profitability through effective management of all equipment and maintenance activities within the assigned area, including cost control, employee development, and high training and safety standards.
  • Ensures safe and reliable assets are available to meet operational requirements.
  • Manages effective utilization of vehicle assets through shared fleet maintenance truck reporting.
  • Conducts fleet evaluations to ensure maintenance standards are met.
  • Provides monthly fleet utilization reports and proposed equipment replacement and disposal recommendations.
  • Ensures maintenance shops are adequately staffed and mechanics are properly trained.
  • Ensures vehicle management systems are effectively utilized.
  • Complies with and ensures adherence to all safety standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Meets all financial review dates, report submissions, and corporate-directed programs in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Conducts and/or attends and contributes to periodic operational meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among all employees and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency. Provides positive training and presentations upon request and participates in the new employee onboarding process.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ten or more years of heavy truck mechanical or similar experience is required. Trucking experience preferred.
  • Business ownership or management and supervisory experience are highly preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task with conflicting priorities in a pressured environment while still maintaining a customer-oriented demeanor.
  • Excellent ability to think proactively, anticipate others' needs, and draft possible solutions.
  • Excellent analytical abilities, with a skill for visualizing a given task, or project and breaking it down into smaller steps, and applying learning from outcomes.
  • Self-directed, and able to prioritize and meet deadlines with professional, quality results.
  • Knowledge of DOT and environmental regulations is preferred.
  • CDL Class A with Hazmat is highly preferred.
  • Computer skills, with knowledge of basic office systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, motivate, and lead employees.
  • Basic knowledge of labor and employment laws.
  • Demonstrate a hands-on, collaborative approach, work well in a team.
  • Ability to summarize data from different sources into a concise format that can be easily expanded and communicated to support initiatives.
  • Ability to facilitate change management and influence positive responses.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software (Word, Excel Outlook). Willingness and ability to learn additional computer software and computer programs.

Work Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Report to the office/shop dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Willingness to work independently or within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
