Job Overview:
The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for process and volume management to identify opportunities that minimize financial risk. The Patient Access Specialist position plays a key role in Patient Access by ensuring all steps are taken to financially secure accounts prior to or during service.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Advanced Excel experience required
Preferred:
- Medical insurance verification and authorization experience preferred
- Minimum 5 years in Patient Access experience preferred
- Extensive knowledge of payer authorization requirements
- Medical terminology and computer skills
Scheduling Requirements:
- Full-Time, Days
- Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm
- Training includes two days of orientation, three days Revenue Cycle training 8:30am-5pm, three days EPIC Training in Oceanport, NJ 8am-4:30pm
Essential Functions:
- Comfortable communicating with patients, providers, and insurance companies to initiate, update and append authorization to support financial outcomes
- Demonstrates proficiency in the entire pre-admission, registration, and financial clearance process
- Reviewing and analyzing volume and data to identify issues and opportunities to make recommendations for changes that support process improvement
- Act as a liaison for streamlined throughput; and collaborate with clinical/departmental counterparts to ensure financial, safety and patient experience goals are met
- Identify appropriate data set for review/assignment
- Volume/schedule management to analyze financial clearance risk
- Determine the appropriate party responsible for follow-up to make a financial clearance determination
- Assign follow-up to departmental champion, or pursue follow-up of unsecured volume for review and escalation to payer and/or provider for resolution
- Audits end user activities to provide in-depth quality analysis and participates in communication for re-education opportunities
- Provides summary of findings to leadership as part of overall action planning
