USS Midway Museum - San Diego, CA

Status: Full-Time

Schedule: 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday

Pay rate: The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00 per hour. The pay rate will be determined by your related education and experience.

Position Summary:

The Payroll/Accounting Clerk is responsible for accurately processing payroll, and general accounting duties.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for 200+ employees.
  • Review timesheets for compliance and accuracy including time off coding, meal breaks, wage transfers, multiple pay rates, time sheet adjustments, etc.
  • Respond to and ensure garnishments, levies, and child support orders are entered into ADP.
  • Generate manual checks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare, reconcile, and audit payroll reports for HR and Accounting.
  • Ensures deductions are accurate.
  • Assist with audit document requests related to payroll and accounting.
  • Respond to staff’s payroll and timekeeping questions.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries.
  • Responds to external requests for payroll related information including EDD, employment verifications, and workers compensation.
  • Perform daily accounting operations including cash management, receivables, payables, and general ledger functions.
  • Process and manage data for journal entries.
  • Update templates to import transactional data to the accounting system.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for operating bank account and all other cash, savings, and investment accounts and related journal entries.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • 1-2 years’ experience in payroll and/or accounting roles
  • Experience with ADP Workforce preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

  • High proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and ability to learn new systems with ease.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals in a professional manner.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality.
  • Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a self-initiating business environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Working Conditions:

Job Conditions/Work Location: Work is performed aboard the USS Midway in former administrative offices restored to basic working conditions.

Physical Requirements: Sit for long periods of time. Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders; to bend, stoop, and lift standard office supplies and small office items.

Equipment Operated: Computer, facsimile, printer, scanner, telephone.
