About This Position

This professional clinical position is responsible for conducting clinical evaluations and delivering treatment services in individual and group formats consistent with the scope of practice of the incumbent. Treatment and therapy will be provided based upon the treatment plan developed by the multidisciplinary treatment team. This professional will be a key member of the treatment team and its process. This position is responsible for providing education about mental illness, treatment, and recovery. The Wellness Specialist will work with patients in teaching skills for coping with specific symptoms and stress management, including development of a crisis management and safety plan.

Responsibilities:

    • Deliver recovery-oriented psychosocial rehabilitation to individuals and groups.
    • Provide clinical support and backup to other clinical staff as needed.
    • Serve as primary therapist to assigned patients.
    • Actively participate in multidisciplinary team processes, including individualized treatment planning, case reviews, behavioral reviews and discharge planning.
    • Works with patient and community support in developing a support network the patient can utilize in managing symptoms and promoting recovery.
    • Provide on-call emergency consultation coverage as needed.
    • Prepares patient records and required treatment records and maintains required documentation of work activities.
    • The Wellness Specialist will be responsible for developing intervention based on the Illness Management and Recovery and Wellness Self-Management curriculum in promoting recovery strategies, relapse prevention, building social supports, coping with stress, and gaining insight on mental illness.
    • The Wellness Specialist will be responsible for promoting activities of daily living, including education on proper hygiene and promoting a healthy lifestyle which includes diet and exercise.
    • Perform other duties (not outlined above) as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

  • One (1) year experience providing behavioral health services.
  • The incumbent must have knowledge of crisis intervention principles and practices, case management practices, understanding and the ability to provide individual, group and family therapy.
  • Skills to detect unusual patient behaviors through observing people who are at risk because of health problems, drug abuse or other health-related problems
  • Good writing skills to document patient’s condition, treatment and care plan in records.
  • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, supervisors, physicians and the public and work in a treatment team environment.

Education:

Licenses / Certifications:

Licensed in New York as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or as a Licensed Psychologist.
