DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
-
The Associate Manager to the Director of Medical Education/DIO in the Office of Medical Education reports to the Designated Institutional Official/Director of Medical Education. Responsible for overseeing all managerial duties related to maintaining accreditation for: a) the three ACGME residency programs at BMC, b) accreditation for the MMS-delegated CME activities at BMC, and c) the effective liaison work with the three medical schools who delegate medical student education to BMC. The Associate Manager's work allows the Director of Medical Education/DIO to function at the top of his/her medical license, so that he/she can maintain a clinical practice in specialty and engage in obtaining research grants and teach faculty, residents and medical students. By carefully planning and guiding the oversight of accreditation on the yearly academic cycle and over the five-year accreditation horizons, the associate manager ensures that all programs are in good standing for continued accreditation. The Associate Manager knows the BMC Strategic Plan and how the Strategic Plan includes GME, CME and Medical Student Education. The Associate Manager knows and ensures that core requirements for GME and CME are met, and then helps guide, in coordination with the ACGME programs, an ongoing improvement plan for each program to be the best it can be. The Associate Manager oversees the annual orientation plan for new residents. The purpose of the role of Associate Manager is to accomplish these accreditation, improvement and operational functions in a way that makes the programs a success and makes the work of the Director of Medical Education/DIO most efficient. in accordance with departmental requirements the Associate Manager deals directly and indirectly with administrative leadership, Department Chairs, Program Directors, Program Coordinators, the Coordinator for medical students, the Executive Secretary to the Chair of Medicine and Director of Medical Education, the house staff, attending physicians at Berkshire Medical Center, UMASS Medical School, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and other health care facilities. In addition, the Associate Manager deals with accrediting bodies of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and the Committee on Medical Education of the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS); ERAS and the NRMP. The Associate Manager deals directly with the CME Coordinator for planning, implementation and evaluation of CME activities which include assessment, faculty liaison, monitoring compliance, evaluation of activities and overall program and administrative management of CME program as indicated by the Committee on Medical Education of the Massachusetts Medical Society for internal and Joint Sponsored activities. Oversees, one-step removed, training, planning and implementation of the EEDS CME system for BMC.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)

Experience:

Two years experience in an educational or health care setting.

Education and Training:
-
BA degree in liberal arts or a related health care or education field.

Preferred to have a master’s degree in education, library science, or a related health-care field.

License, Certification & Registration:

Other Requirements:
-
Ability to use Microsoft applications including Excel, Word and Power Point for correspondence, presentations and data analysis purposes, familiarity with medical terminology, typing of 60 WPM, experience in dictation, excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to use Microsoft Co-Pilot to increase efficiency and productivity.

Skill or willingness to learn setting up virtual meetings and monitoring them.
-
Skill or willingness to learn using virtual technology to monitor attendance, evaluate performance and enhance delivery of CME and resident education in virtual environments.
-
Must be able to multi-task, work in a busy environment with multiple demands and frequent interruptions.

Must be able to understand the strategic plan of the health system and relate that to the roles and functions of the Department of Medical Education.

Must be able to understand the relevant core requirements of the ACGME and the ACCME and be sure they are met while fostering improvement in the core functions of the Department of Medical Education.

Skills at fostering teamwork within the Department of Medical Education and across programs at BMC and across institutions (such as regulatory bodies and the medical schools).

Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn the ACGME Core Requirements and the ACCME’s core CME requirements
-
Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn the yearly flow of data and evaluations in the ACGME’s annual accreditation cycle.

Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn how to navigate and add data to the ACGME’s ADS system.
-
Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn the objectives, processes and rules of the NRMP.
-
Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn the structure and function of the CLER program, of the ACGME.
