Job Description
SEIU Pay Range: $25.65 to $38.55 Dependent on Experience
The role of the Pharmacy Technician is to assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare and dispense medications under the supervision of a pharmacist
- Accurately enter prescription information and maintain patient records
- Process insurance claims and handle billing inquiries
- Assist customers with prescription pick-up and general questions, referring clinical concerns to the pharmacist
- Measure, count, label, and package medications with a high degree of accuracy
- Maintain inventory, including ordering, stocking, and checking for expired medications
- Operate pharmacy systems and point-of-sale equipment
- Ensure compliance with pharmacy laws, regulations, and safety standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy workspace
- Safeguard patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
Job Requirements
Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to:
- Strong typing proficiency and computer skills
- Ability to adapt to new systems, procedures, and work environments
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Solid clerical and administrative skills
- Effective organizational skills with the ability to complete assigned tasks and projects
- Ability to compound sterile products in accordance with established procedures
- Excellent customer service skills and experience
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
License/Certification
- Current Oregon Pharmacy Technician License required.
- Must obtain and maintain national certification through either the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) within one year of being hired into the Pharmacy Technician position.
*Candidates who are not currently licensed with an Oregon Pharmacy Technician License may initially be hired into a Pharmacy Clerk position while working toward obtaining their Pharmacy Technician license. Upon successful licensure, the employee will be transitioned into the Pharmacy Technician role.
Education and/or Experience
Minimum Experience: Prior experience as a hospital pharmacy technician is desirable.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance
Long periods of standing. Position involves standing, walking, stooping, and occasional carrying and lifting of lightweight materials (up to 30 pounds). May be required to sit for extended periods of time. Requires visual acuity and depth perception to recognize words and numbers; and hand and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination to use a computer keyboard and common office equipment
