The Opportunity

Lesley University's department of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking a highly qualified adjunct faculty member to teach: CLANG 1101 - Spanish I; Fall Semester 2026; Tuesdays/Fridays from 8:00 am - 9:15 am; In-person, On-campus.

Course Description:
This introductory course is designed for students with little or no prior knowledge of Spanish. The course develops foundational skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while fostering an understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures and communities. Particular emphasis is placed on the Spanish-speaking communities of New England, especially Massachusetts, and on building meaningful community engagement. Students will develop their language proficiency through the creation of portfolios in Spanish that connect language learning to their academic and professional interests. These portfolios will demonstrate students’ developing language skills, understanding of future professions, and appreciation for the importance of community engagement in culturally and linguistically diverse settings. Instruction is conducted primarily in Spanish, with English used as needed to support clarity and comprehension.

Qualities & Capabilities

A successful candidate will have:

  • Master's degree in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field (required); PhD or terminal degree (preferred)

  • Experience teaching Spanish at the undergraduate level with the ability to integrate cultural competence and community engagement into language instruction

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish; Professional proficiency in English

  • Demonstrated commitment to communicative, student-centered, inclusive, and equitable language teaching practices

  • Experience using learning management systems and instructional technology to support teaching and learning

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
