Description: BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Works directly with surgeon office to schedule surgical procedures, collects procedural data monthly, prepares reports on surgical statistics, serves as expert on computer scheduling. Processes lab orders and gathers appropriate health history and reports on patients as needed.
REPORTS TO- Nurse Manager/ Nursing Director—Perioperative Services
Supervisory Responsibilities: NO
Minimum Education: High School/GED Required
License/Certification Required: BLS certification preferred.
Minimum Work Experience: 2 years previous experience in the medical field/physician’s office required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Working knowledge of Meditech and Microsoft Office.
- Exemplary communication skills.
- Builds relationship with physicians and supports scheduling efficiency.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Proficiency in Meditech preferred (super user).
- Obtains and correctly enters necessary booking information from person requesting surgical time. Follows established guidelines for scheduling to increase efficiency. Edits computer data, i.e., staff, procedures, etc., to maintain accuracy.
- Prepares tentative surgical schedules. Verifies patients’ names, procedures, surgeons and times. Communicates information as necessary, adhering to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures. Prepares final version of schedule for following date.
- Communicates any changes affecting the next day’s schedule to unit manager and Anesthesia Department. Ensures that all records are accounted for and verifies each patient account; sends patient charges to BAR. Audits RN documentation for missing documentation and charges on daily basis.
- Serves as Meditech 6.0 super user for the operating room and is required to attend all Meditech updates and meetings. Sorts and stores records accurately. Compiles census statistics accurately and in a timely manner. Prepares administrative reports as instructed.
- Processes lab orders correctly including, data entry, sending out/delivering speciments, and verificying specimens going to Soltas lab. Works closely with Patient Financial Services, Surgery Material Coordinators, and Supply Chain to confirm costing and billing practices.
- Prioritizes work based on office policy and patient type ensuring we always cover the accounts that are higher dollar and great risk if errors should occur.
- Ensures that all patient revenues are captured, documented, prepared by the billing vendor and entered into the appropriate billing system.
- Assists in maintaining internal charge capture mechanisms. Processes all bills for surgical patients on the day they are received. Billing problems are reported to patient financial services to ensure timely correction of issues.
- Refers conflicts and procedural questions to unit manager.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Maintains knowledge of instrument and equipment limitations of department.
- Fosters mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly, manner as measured by management observation and peer input.

- Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
