Job Description

The BSA Specialist will assist the BSA Officer with the compliance of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and 31 CFR Chapter X, Financial Recordkeeping and Currency and Foreign Transaction Reporting Act, Money Laundering Control Act (or BSA), Customer Identification Program requirements of the USA Patriot Act and Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review potential matches from Bank staff to ensure transactions do not involve an SDN blocked person or entity, a prohibited transaction, or a sanctioned country
  • Provide documentation to clear potential matches
  • Documents all searches and their resolutions
  • Communicate with bank employees and other Law Enforcement Agencies for relevant customer information
  • Research, investigate, and prepare documentation in regards to potentially suspicious activity from AML software generated cases
  • Performs analysis of suspicious activity using knowledge of BSA and other regulatory guidelines to formulate a conclusion within a clear and concise investigation report.
  • Work effectively with multiple complex data sources and technical analytical tools/ resources
  • Be knowledgeable of United Bankshares, Inc. products, services, customers, geographic
  • locations, and potential money laundering and terrorist financing risks associated with those activities
  • Work and contribute in a team-oriented and collaborative environment to improve the analytical and SAR reporting processes
  • Demonstrate appropriate personal and interpersonal behavior, attitude, judgment, communication, and initiative when working with customers and Bank staff to ensure a high level of support to the overall management of the BSA program
  • Responsible for ongoing review and self-education of banking regulation changes related to BSA/AML, OFAC and the USA Patriot Act
  • Assist the BSA Officer with various tasks as necessary.
  • Maintain and continue professional education through department provided training and external classes.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Either a Bachelor’s degree in concentration of Criminal Justice, Business or Finance or
  • Minimum of two (2) years of working experience in a banking ore related environment required
  • Previous bank teller experience and understanding of customer banking transactions, a plus.
  • Familiarity with BSA, OFAC, and SARs required
  • Knowledge of BSA, OFAC, CIP, 314a, CDD, PEPs are required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of software;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical problem solving and organization skills
  • Ability to perform simple/complex mathematical calculations
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work well with others and be a team player;
  • Demonstrated excellence in time management, multi-tasking and being detail oriented.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Sufficient dexterity of hands and fingers to efficiently operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.
  • Ability to converse and exchange information with all levels of staff within organization.
  • Ability to observe, perceive, identify, and translate data.
