Overview
ITT is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Product Manager to lead the strategic direction, growth, profitability, and lifecycle management of the Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and Fluid & Mechanical Controls (FMC) product portfolios within our Aerospace Controls business in Valencia, California.
This position serves as the business leader for assigned product lines, responsible for developing and executing product strategies that align customer needs, market opportunities, technology investments, and operational capabilities to achieve business growth objectives. The Product Manager owns the product roadmap, supports new business capture efforts, drives portfolio optimization initiatives, and serves as the voice of the customer within the organization.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in aerospace, defense, or other highly engineered manufacturing environments, with a demonstrated ability to successfully manage complex product portfolios, drive profitable growth, and lead cross-functional teams. This role requires strong customer-facing skills, strategic thinking, financial acumen, and the ability to influence across Engineering, Program Management, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, and Business Development organizations.
The Product Manager serves as the primary focal point for product strategy and business performance, ensuring alignment between customer requirements, market trends, operational execution, and financial objectives. This individual will play a critical role in defining the future direction of ITT's ECS and FMC product lines while driving customer satisfaction, market share growth, and sustained profitability throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Portfolio Leadership
- Develop and execute product line strategies that support long-term business growth and profitability objectives.
- Establish and maintain product roadmaps aligned with market needs, customer requirements, emerging technologies, and business priorities.
- Evaluate market opportunities and identify growth initiatives across commercial aerospace, defense, rotorcraft, and emerging platform markets.
- Lead portfolio optimization efforts, including new product introductions, product enhancements, and product rationalization activities.
- Drive technology investment planning in partnership with Engineering and Business Development organizations.
- Analyze competitive positioning and develop strategies to strengthen market leadership.
Financial & Business Ownership
- Own for engineering Non Recurring Engineering revenue, bookings, performance, and growth objectives for assigned product portfolios.
- Support the sales team in developing annual operating plans, bookings forecasts, strategic growth plans, and long-range business strategies
- Monitor financial performance and drive corrective actions when necessary.
- Lead business case development for capital investments, technology development, and new product opportunities.
- Support pricing strategy development and commercial decision making with the sales organization.
- Identify and implement margin improvement and cost optimization initiatives.
Customer & Market Engagement
- Serve as the primary business representative for assigned ECS and FMC product lines.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with aerospace OEMs, defense customers, Tier 1 suppliers, and strategic partners.
- Gather and analyze customer requirements and market intelligence to drive strategic decision making.
- Lead customer business reviews, product strategy discussions, and executive-level meetings.
- Represent ITT at industry conferences, trade shows, customer events, and market-focused engagements.
- Serve as the internal voice of the customer and advocate for customer priorities across the organization.
New Business & Growth Initiatives
- Support capture strategy development for strategic aerospace and defense opportunities.
- Partner with Sales and Business Development teams to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Evaluate market trends and competitive landscapes to identify future growth areas.
- Lead product positioning and value proposition development for customer pursuits.
- Support proposal development, pricing reviews, negotiations, and contract execution activities.
- Assist with strategic planning efforts associated with new aerospace platforms and technology insertion opportunities.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Lead cross-functional teams in the execution of product line strategies and business objectives.
- Ensure alignment between Engineering, Program Management, Operations, Quality, Finance, and Supply Chain organizations.
- Support successful execution of development, qualification, production, and sustainment programs.
- Drive decision making related to product investments, priorities, risks, and resource allocation.
- Facilitate communication and coordination among stakeholders to achieve business and customer objectives.
Product Lifecycle Management
- Manage the complete lifecycle of assigned products from concept and development through maturity and obsolescence.
- Lead product improvement initiatives focused on reliability, cost reduction, manufacturability, and customer value.
- Support qualification, certification, and production transition activities for new products.
- Develop lifecycle strategies addressing obsolescence, supply chain risk, and long-term sustainment requirements.
- Support customer issue resolution and continuous improvement efforts related to quality, delivery, and performance.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance across cross-functional teams.
- Influence organizational priorities through data-driven business recommendations.
- Foster collaboration between business and technical organizations.
- Promote a culture of accountability, customer focus, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor developing product managers and business professionals as appropriate.
- Serve as a strategic leader within the Aerospace Controls organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in Product Management, Program Management, Engineering, Business Development, Operations, or related aerospace functions.
- Demonstrated experience managing technical aerospace products throughout the product lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of aerospace systems, including Environmental Control Systems, Fluid & Mechanical Control products, valves, regulators, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, thermal management systems, or related technologies.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver business results in a complex aerospace environment.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing revenue, profitability, business cases, forecasting, and investment planning.
- Experience working directly with aerospace OEMs, defense contractors, government customers, and Tier 1 suppliers.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and aerospace program management, best practices.
- Experience supporting U.S. Government, commercial aerospace, or major OEM customers.
Desired Qualifications
- MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
- Experience within commercial aerospace, military aerospace, defense, rotorcraft, or space markets.
- Familiarity with aerospace qualification and certification processes.
- Understanding of aerospace manufacturing operations and supply chain management.
- Experience supporting proposal development and strategic capture activities.
- Familiarity with FAA, EASA, DoD, and customer qualification requirements.
- Experience using ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Value Stream Management, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Experience managing P&L responsibility or product-line financial performance.
