Chief Development Officer in Reno, Nevada at Renown Health

Renown Health is the only academic not-for-profit health system serving our community—and the only provider of essential and advanced care across the 100,000 square miles we serve throughout Northern Nevada and Northeastern California. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) leads enterprise philanthropy for Renown Health—building the strategy, systems, and relationships that grow major, planned, and annual giving. The CDO sets a donor-centered vision, oversees gift administration and recognition, and strengthens community engagement to advance Renown’s mission.

As the senior interface with the donor community—partnering closely with the Renown Health CEO—the CDO will inspire transformational gifts and lasting partnerships. This leader will coach and energize a talented fundraising team and will be a dynamic, compelling speaker who can authentically communicate Renown’s vision and impact.

The CDO will lead the recently launched capital campaign to advance our cancer center and build a free-standing children’s hospital, translating the Renown Health Strategic Plan into bold, investable priorities.

The CDO will manage budgets and lead fundraising initiatives across major giving, capital campaigns, corporate and foundation grants, and events to secure sustainable philanthropic support. Success in this role requires close collaboration with community partners—especially advancing aligned fundraising activities with the University of Nevada School of Medicine

The incumbent will develop tax strategies for donors, oversee gift recording, accounting and recognition, and will work with director and foundation staff to develop relationships within the community that lend themselves to furthering philanthropic support for Renown Health. It is expected that this position will champion a major capital campaign(s) as identified by Renown Health Strategic Planning process.

The CDO reports directly to the CEO and serves on the President’s Council.

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Bachelor’s degree required with a Masters preferred in a field related to institutional advancement, such as business, social science, political science, law or communications/advertising. Experience in a related position may be substituted for a degree

Experience:

Seven to ten years experience working directly with fundraising in a leadership role required. Preference will be given to those candidates with healthcare fundraising experience, although knowledge of the local philanthropy and social business community is highly valued.
