Summary of Job

The Master Data Specialist is responsible for accurate creation and maintaining of ERP master data, supporting complex manufacturing operations. This role ensures the integrity of bills of material, routings, and costing structures that directly drive production planning, inventory control, and financial accuracy. This role requires strong collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to translate production processes into structured data.

Function & Scope of Responsibility –

• Creates, updates, and maintains accurate item master records in the ERP system, ensuring consistency in naming conventions, descriptions, and classifications, per master data governance rules, standard operating procedures, and data standards.

• Processes, validates, and executes master data creation and approved change requests in a timely manner including bills of material, routings, rolling costs, and adding drawings.

• Creates subcontract information within the ERP system based on standard routing and ad hoc organizational decisions.

• Creates purchasing materials for manufactured materials based on organizational standards.

• Enters and maintains critical purchasing fields, including, but not limited to, unit of measure, manufacturer name & material number, supplier material number, and general purchasing information per approved supplier list.

• Creates and maintains purchasing source records and informational records in a timely manner.

• Generates Excel reporting by departmental standards and directives.

• Maintains accurate material master, purchase information records, costing, and related data within the ERP system.

• Supports engineering changes processes, ensuring timely and accurate updates to BOMs, routing, and related master data while maintaining revision control.

• Performs analysis of large data sets to identify and correct inconsistencies and errors as well as maintaining accurate data within our ERP system.

• Communicates with organizational departments to thoroughly understand business requirements and the impact of master data changes.

• Informs requestors of master data changes as applicable.

• Reacts to escalation notices to expedite creation or changes to master data by prioritizing requests.

• Provides master data expertise to multiple departments, identifies options, and determines the most suitable solution to resolve master data issues.

• Supports organizational objectives through various tasks to include, but not limited to, internal audits, physical inventory participation, and other tasks as assigned.

• Assists with assigned tasks for ERP implementation, continues training, and embraces business change per organizational timeline

Authority/Decision Making

• Determines bill of materials per drawing and creates product structures determined by design review team in a timely manner.

• Prioritizes new materials creation primary as first in/first out but prioritizes exceptions as communicated by the organization or line manager.

• Ensures master data accuracy to prevent production disruptions, scheduling errors, and inventory discrepancies.

• Acts as a gatekeeper for data quality, rejecting incomplete or non-compliant requests.

• Enforces master data governance policies, naming conventions, and standardization rules.

• Maintains documentation of data changes and approvals.

• Identifies opportunities to improve data processes. Reduce errors, and streamline workflows

Skills, Knowledge, Experience Required

• Advanced proficiency in ERP systems with strong computer skills required.

• Understanding of process manufacturing environments

• Experience managing large, complex data sets with high variability.

• Strong organizational and communication skills

• Sound decision making and accountability.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and understand manufacturing processes including bills of materials and routings.

• Advanced Excel required, including strong proficiency in data management tools and intermediate formulations.

• Maintains a high level of data accuracy and attention to detail.

• Collaborative team member who understands this role supports multiple functions and communicates effectively across departments

• Must be able to work independently and prioritize daily tasks

• Knowledge of routing structures including work centers, setup and run times, and capacity considerations.

• 2 years experience in supporting new material set up processes through effective data management and cross-functional collaboration in a manufacturing setting

• Technical aptitude, including the ability to interpret drawings, required

Education or Professional Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or a minimum of 3 years of related experience in ERP system analysis; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Strong technical aptitude, including proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings

• 3 years manufacturing experience preferred

• 1 year Infor M3 experience strongly preferred

Working Environment and Physical Demands -

Work Environment

• Operating in a hybrid capacity, this role divides time between an office environment and the production floor to directly validate routing accuracy and operational processes.

• Exposure to manufacturing environments, including noise, extreme temperatures, and heavy equipment.

Physical Demands

• This role requires the candidate to proficiently read and interpret work instructions and organizational announcements, use sight and hearing, touch using both hands, bending, stooping, walking, reaching overhead, and frequently sitting and typing.

• Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25lbs.
