Part Time Housekeeper / General Cleaner – Hostel in San Francisco, California at Gooday Inc

About the Position

We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Housekeeper / General Cleaner to help maintain a clean, sanitary, and welcoming environment for our hostel guests.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, works efficiently, pays close attention to detail, and is comfortable working independently as well as as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect hostel bathrooms and shower areas according to established cleaning standards.
• Thoroughly clean toilets, including the bowl, seat, lid, base, and flush handle.
• Clean and scrub shower walls, floors, edges, grout lines, corners, shelves, and other areas where soap scum, water scale, hair, or dirt may accumulate.
• Remove hair and debris from shower drains.
• Clean and check shower curtains and report or replace damaged curtain hooks when needed.
• Clean mirrors, doors, door handles, locks, push plates, soap dispensers, shelves, and other bathroom fixtures.
• Disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
• Sweep floors thoroughly before mopping and pay special attention to corners and areas behind toilets and fixtures.
• Keep floors clean and free of standing water after cleaning.
• Clean and maintain common areas, including tables, countertops, seating areas, sinks, and microwaves.
• Remove food residue and other debris from microwave interiors and exteriors.
• Monitor trash levels and notify management when trash needs to be removed.
• Perform regular deep cleaning of bathrooms, showers, and common areas.
• Report maintenance problems, damage, or unusual cleaning issues to management promptly.
• Keep cleaning supplies and equipment organized and properly stored.
• Carry and maintain a cleaning caddy or portable cleaning bag to work efficiently between areas.
• Work cooperatively with hostel management and volunteers to maintain overall property cleanliness.

Cleaning Standards & Expectations

• Work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness.
• The expected average cleaning time is approximately 15 minutes per shower or toilet.
• Complete cleaning of all bathrooms and shower facilities may require approximately 6 hours.
• Full deep cleaning of all bathroom and shower facilities is expected at least twice per week.
• Follow established cleaning procedures and use cleaning products and equipment properly.
• Consistently check corners, grout lines, edges, high-touch surfaces, and areas where dirt or hair can accumulate.
• Maintain a clean, friendly, and comfortable environment for guests.

Qualifications

• Previous housekeeping, hotel, hostel, janitorial, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Flexible schedule
• Reliable, punctual, and responsible.
• Able to work efficiently and follow cleaning procedures.
• Able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks for extended periods.
• Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals and following safety instructions.
• Able to communicate effectively with management and team members.
• Must be dependable and respectful of guests, coworkers, and hostel property.
• Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred.
