Job Description

SUMMARY

Treat every individual with dignity and respect by greeting them with enthusiasm by name and adding joy to their day. Maintain a safe and high quality adult day program by consistently providing a structured and engaging atmosphere. Work directly and professionally with the Manager, Assistant Manager and peers within the Adult Day Program in all aspects of the program.

ONGOING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to successfully perform each ongoing duty.

  1. Promotes a positive image by representing the Recreation Department and the Achievement Centers for Children in a courteous, professional manner.
  1. Adheres to all Policies/Procedures in the Achievement Centers for Children Staff Handbook.
  1. Promotes a team approach within each program and throughout the agency.
  1. Works in family-centered partnerships with the individuals and families served by the Achievement Centers for Children
  1. Practices safe work habits and contributes to ensuring a safe and healthful work environment.
  1. Maintains the department to allow for safe, efficient and organized delivery of services including daily cleaning of the River Rock Clubhouse.
  2. Maintains all equipment in safe working order, notifying supervisor of repairs/replacements as needed.
  3. Practices appropriate safety techniques related to Infection Control and Universal Precautions including hand washing and toy/equipment disinfecting.
  1. Fosters and maintains good public relations with referral sources, transportation providers and individuals and businesses within the community.
  1. Conducts self with professional dignity; understands the importance of good human relations; able to motivate others; and possesses initiative and good judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed. To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties.

  1. Treat every individual with dignity and respect by greeting them with enthusiasm by name and adding joy to their day. Communicate daily with Manager and Assistant Manager of Adult Day Services.
  2. Maintain a safe and high quality adult day program by consistently providing constant supervision and a structured and engaging atmosphere.
  3. Review, understand and ensure that goals and services listed on the each clients’ Individual Service Plan (ISP) are consistently provided and behavioral support plans are understood and followed. If additional training or resources are needed immediately communicate that with the Manager or Assistant Manager of Adult Day Services.
  4. For the clients you are assigned, document on the clients “doc sheets” the goals and services provided at the end of every work day. Ensure all of their daily needs are met.
  5. Provide ideas and feedback to Manager and/or Assistant Manager at appropriate times to add value to the clients’ experience within the program.
  6. Complete ADL’s and communication books daily for the clients you are assigned. If another day program staff is absent and you are the identified back-up staff, complete their documentation as well.
  7. Complete incident reports when applicable. Have them reviewed by the Manager or Assistant Manager of Adult Day Services prior to sending the report home. Know and adhere to rules and procedures related to MUI’s.
  8. Be ability focused, always encouraging clients to be as independent as possible.
  9. Participate with clients in all of the activities available on camp property (hikes, swimming, canoeing, fishing, horse / barn activities, jazzercise, join the band, crafts, cooking, etc.)
  10. Participate in the planning and supervision of client field trips.
  11. Provide transportation in an agency vehicle for clients to and from the program and community activities as needed.
  12. Attend and participate in team meetings, department meetings and agency meetings when requested.
  13. Plan and lead group activities.
  14. Maintain confidentiality in regards to client information.
  15. Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and families.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS listed below are indicative of knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in this position.

Education, Training, and/or Experience

  1. One-year Experience working with people with disabilities
  2. Experience with attending to the personal care needs of individuals with disabilities
  3. High School Diploma or GED
  4. Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or willingness to become certified prior to start date)
  5. DOT physical (or willingness to become certified prior to start date)

Your job responsibilities require you to drive your personal vehicle or an Agency vehicle. You will be required to maintain a valid driver’s license, auto insurance as required by state law, and an acceptable driving record.

Requires Skills and Attributes

  1. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to camp lifestyle including valuing nature and encouraging and participating in outdoor activities such as fishing, canoeing, swimming, hiking, interacting with horses, adapted sports, etc.
  2. Ability, not disability focused.
  3. Ability and willingness to drive a mini-bus.
  4. Communicates in a professional manner when writing and verbally.
  5. Must be conscientious and responsible, good attendance is necessary for the consistency of client care.

Certifications and Licenses

  1. Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
  2. CPI certification within first 90 days of employment.
  3. Med Pass certification if requested by Manager of Adult Day Services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Previous experience with working with adults with disabilities in an adult day and vocational setting.
  2. Experience with communication devices and sign language.

  1. Assists in lifting adults.
  2. Actively participates in all programs and activities throughout the work day.
  3. Performs custodial and maintenance duties.
  4. Able to walk for extended periods of time in varied weather and on varied surfaces.

  1. Flexibility with work schedule depending on client and program need.
  2. Requires outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  3. Some off-site travel required.
  4. Requires interacting with horses in a barn setting and getting in a 5 foot deep pool with clients.
