Outpatient Services Coordinator/PICC Line RN Surgery and Infusion

POSITION SUMMARY

The Outpatient Services Coordinator/PICC Line RN provides safe, high-quality nursing care in accordance with the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act, regulatory standards, BBGH policies, and established standards of care. This 36-hour position supports outpatient services coordination, hospital-wide vascular access needs through PICC services, infusion support, staff education, and float coverage as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides patient-centered nursing care with compassion, respect, and accountability for quality outcomes.
  • Performs PICC line insertion, vascular access assessment, device maintenance, troubleshooting, and appropriate device selection within RN scope, policy, provider orders, and validated competency.
  • Assists outpatient services managers with daily operations, workflow support, communication, scheduling needs, patient throughput, resource coordination, and departmental follow-up.
  • Supports the Infusion Department when PICC services are not required and floats to other clinic or hospital departments based on organizational needs and competency.
  • Serves as a hospital-wide vascular access resource and collaborates with providers, nursing staff, outpatient services managers, and interdisciplinary team members to improve access, continuity of care, and patient outcomes.
  • Assists nursing education with education development, instruction, and acts as a resource for organizational education.
Clinical Practice and Quality Responsibilities
  • Promotes safe, evidence-based nursing practice, quality outcomes, service excellence, and regulatory readiness.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives related to infusion therapy, vascular access, infection prevention, patient outcomes, and service efficiency.
  • Supports consistent vascular access care through standardized assessment, documentation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and escalation processes.
  • Identifies and communicates equipment, supply, staffing, workflow, and resource needs to leadership.
Education and Competency Responsibilities
  • Develops and provides education and competency validation for nursing staff related to vascular access assessment, device selection, ultrasound-guided IV insertion, PICC maintenance, troubleshooting, and evidence-based practice.
  • Serves as an educator and clinical resource for staff, patients, and families regarding vascular access devices, infusion therapy, line care, infection prevention, and follow-up needs.
  • Collaborates with the Nursing Education to identify education needs, assist with curriculum and material development, provide instruction, and support competency-based learning across nursing services.
Required Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse license in Nebraska or compact state license recognized by Nebraska.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC
  • Chemotherapy Certification within 1 year of hire
  • Demonstrated competency in infusion therapy, vascular access assessment, and PICC line insertion and maintenance.
Work Expectations
  • Work hours and assignments may vary based on organizational, departmental, and patient care needs.
  • Duties may include PICC line services, vascular access consultation, infusion services, outpatient services coordination, education, competency validation, and float responsibilities.
