Job Summary:

Our primary objective is to provide care to clients who have been diagnosed with a SMI (Serious Mental Illness) Diagnosis in our Residential settings and help them manage their symptoms of mental illness and learn coping skills. Behavioral Health Technicians will provide a variety of services that assist the clients with their activities of daily living. Staff will be responsible for providing support, education and assistance through these services offered to ensure the safety and well-being of a client. In addition, BHT’s will provide counseling to clients on an individual and group basis. This role will be performed at the client’s primary residence or in the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Facilitating, organizing and participating in therapeutic groups, activities, exercise, and recreation.
• Communicating with members in various settings; groups, activities, 1:1.
• Assistance with member's self-administration of medication, providing medication education.
• Observe, intervene, and document member's psychiatric and medical status.
• Implementing individualized goals identified in the Helping Hearts Treatment Plan, to include symptoms management, coping skills, activities of daily living, independent living skills, medication compliance, etc.
• Assist the Helping Hearts team in assessing progress in the member's treatment
• Responds to crisis situations appropriately, effectively, and calmly to ensure ongoing safety of members and others.
• Serves as positive role model by establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships and appropriate boundaries with members and their Helping Hearts clinical team.
• Promoting quality service within a compassionate environment by treating member, staff and coworkers with respect and dignity.
• Actively participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team to develop and employ a member care program by attending and contributing to team meetings.
• Demonstrate quality therapeutic rapport and treatment approaches within the residential facility.
• Completing mandatory education and training requirements.
• Modeling effective member engagement to co-workers, demonstrating appropriate and effective member rapport. Following Helping Hearts outlines policies and procedures, core values, and mission statement.
• Perform any other duties as deemed necessary and as directed by a member of the management team.

• Ability to communicate with members in a friendly and congenial manner
• Ability to read, write and understand English

Supervisory Responsibility

This position is not responsible for supervising other employees.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee will normally work in a hospital/clinic environment, with frequent exposure to electronic and medical office equipment.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Prolonged periods of standing, bending and lifting. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee will engage in movements that involve lifting equipment used in patient care, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee may be exposed to infectious diseases and human waste products.

Required Education and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent; Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Social Services, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services
• Combination of 4 years' experience and/or education in a related field
• CPR/First Aid Certified
• CPI Training and/or Therapeutic Options Training
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Must have excellent observation, good judgment, and good oral and written communication skills.
• Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

• Must be able to pass background check and drug screening unless otherwise prohibited by law.
• Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Must be 18 years of age or Older
