Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting function and help build a scalable finance infrastructure for a growing distribution business. This role is ideal for someone with strong accounting fundamentals who is ready to take ownership of monthly close, financial reporting, internal controls, inventory accounting, and process improvement. This position will play a key role in executing an ERP implementation and future M&A integration activities.
Job Description
- Month-End & Reporting: Manage the month-end closing process including maintaining the close calendar, sales tax filings and internal operational reports. Prepare monthly financial statements and reporting packages; analyze variances with the CFO. Support CFO on management, board, and lender reporting.
- General Ledger & Reconciliations: Oversee monthly transactions in the general ledger, bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet reconciliations, including associated schedule maintenance.
- Full-Cycle Accounting: Lead a small team of two to oversee daily accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, invoicing, collections, daily cash, and revenue/expense accruals. Document SOPs and internal controls surrounding these processes.
- Inventory & Cost Accounting: Partner with the VP of Inventory to support inventory accounting, including receipts, costing, adjustments, reserves, and reconciliations. Support cycle counts, physical inventory and inventory control processes.
- Payroll: Prepare semi-monthly payroll in Paylocity, including commission calculations. Oversee integrations with 401k and benefits administrators to ensure payroll records are kept up to date.
- Annual Compliance: Coordinate with external CPA firms to produce reports and supporting documentation in support of the annual financial audit and tax filings.
- ERP/Systems: Serve as a key accounting participant in the Infor CloudSuite Distribution implementation, supporting data clean-up, validation, testing, accounting workflows, reporting requirements, and post-go-live stabilization. Work with the CFO to improve accounting workflows and identify automation opportunities.
- M&A: Assist with onboarding acquired businesses into the company's accounting processes, reporting structure, and control environment. Help map acquired company chart of accounts, financial reporting, vendors, customers, inventory, and working capital accounts into the company's structure. Partner with finance leadership to establish consistent close calendars, account reconciliations, reporting packages, and accounting policies across acquired businesses.
Required
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Demonstrated experience owning and improving the monthly close process
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with ERP reports, data exports, reconciliations, and operational reporting
- Ability to lead a small team while remaining hands-on in the details
Preferred
- Background in public accounting
- Experience in a growth-stage or private equity-backed company
- ERP implementation or major system migration experience
- Infor system experience, especially Infor CloudSuite Distribution or SX.e
- M&A integration experience
- Experience in distribution, manufacturing, industrial supply, wholesale, or another inventory-heavy business
