This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer New Markets based in Canada.
This is a senior engineering opportunity focused on building and scaling mission-critical systems that support global financial markets.
You will design and evolve highly available brokerage infrastructure serving millions of users and substantial transaction volumes.
The role combines hands-on full-stack engineering with technical leadership, regional initiatives, and operational reliability ownership.
You’ll work across backend services, internal platforms, APIs, vendor integrations, and systems supporting multiple markets and currencies.
As part of a globally distributed engineering organization, you’ll collaborate across regions while operating with significant autonomy.
You’ll also contribute to incident response, mentor engineers, and help shape technical practices and culture within the region.

- Design, build, and maintain highly scalable, mission-critical brokerage systems and services supporting global financial markets.
- Develop and enhance middle- and back-office platforms, including gRPC microservices, React-based internal interfaces, and third-party integrations.
- Work with core engineering teams to evolve frameworks and infrastructure supporting multiple languages, currencies, markets, and regional requirements.
- Lead technical initiatives within the region, including recruitment activities, cross-functional projects, engineering mentorship, and development of strong engineering practices.
- Act as the regional operational reliability and engineering lead, serving as incident commander during business hours and helping maintain proactive 24x7 system stability.
- Troubleshoot production incidents, customer-reported issues, and software defects while identifying and addressing underlying technical causes.
- Collaborate asynchronously and synchronously with global technical leads, adapting communication and coordination to a distributed environment.
- Navigate regulatory and market-specific requirements while designing scalable solutions that enable international expansion.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities and provide engineering support for critical incidents and time-sensitive technical initiatives.
- Proven experience as a senior software engineer with strong computer science fundamentals and a track record of designing and architecting complex software systems.
- Strong proficiency in Go or a comparable backend programming language, with the ability to design robust, efficient, and scalable architectures.
- Experience with event-driven system design and distributed, high-availability applications.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, a proactive approach, and the confidence to make sound technical decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with global engineering teams, regulators, vendors, and business stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead incident response, troubleshoot complex production issues, and act with authority as an incident commander.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a fully remote, globally distributed organization.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical business strategies and outcomes.
- Experience working in a startup or fast-growing technology environment is an advantage.
- Familiarity with domain-driven design, emerging technologies, and AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar platforms is beneficial.
- Experience in financial services, fintech, brokerage platforms, or online trading systems is highly desirable, particularly knowledge of order management, execution, market data, settlement, and real-time transaction processing.
- Additional valuable experience includes double-entry accounting, multi-currency financial applications, financial APIs, market-data integrations, and regulatory compliance requirements.
