Job Description

Senior Software Engineer II

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer II based in Canada.

This is a senior engineering opportunity focused on building the integrations and data infrastructure that connect modern finance platforms with accounting, ERP, and AI ecosystems.
You will design, build, and operate reliable APIs, data pipelines, and exchange systems that are critical to customer workflows.
The role combines hands-on software development with architectural ownership, technical influence, and close collaboration across product and business teams.
You will help establish scalable data contracts, observability, and engineering practices as the integrations landscape grows.
Working in an AI-centric environment, you will also explore AI-enabled agents, MCP servers, and modern developer tooling.
The position offers substantial autonomy, meaningful technical challenges, and the opportunity to shape long-term engineering direction.
You will join a distributed team where thoughtful architecture, rapid experimentation, and reliable production systems are equally valued.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, develop, and operate integrations, APIs, and data exchange systems connecting financial products with accounting, ERP, data, and AI-enabled platforms.
  • Own integration pipelines and service-level expectations end-to-end, establishing clear metrics and ensuring reliable data movement between systems.
  • Define and maintain robust data contracts that protect downstream integrations and analytics from upstream changes.
  • Design and implement data-centric systems, including ETL/ELT pipelines and scalable data architectures.
  • Contribute directly to development through code reviews, implementation work, technical troubleshooting, and ownership of critical customer data issues.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Research, Business Development, and go-to-market teams to deliver secure, compliant, and seamless integration experiences.
  • Influence technical strategy across the organization by advocating for engineering priorities, integration standards, and scalable architectural practices.
  • Provide technical direction through architecture and design reviews, pair programming, and ongoing knowledge sharing.
  • Establish and improve observability across integration systems to monitor system health, identify issues, and accelerate troubleshooting.
  • Promote rapid, iterative development supported by experimentation, measurement, and analysis.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to help maintain the reliability of production integration systems.
  • Contribute to an AI-forward engineering workflow by using AI coding assistants and helping build AI-enabled agents and MCP servers.
Requirements:
  • Significant professional experience designing and developing integrations, APIs, and data exchange systems; experience with accounting integrations or financial systems is an asset.
  • Strong background building data-centric systems, including ETL/ELT pipelines, data architecture, and data integration workflows.
  • Hands-on coding proficiency with Python and Ruby on Rails, along with modern data and integration technologies.
  • Experience with tools such as Dagster, Airbyte, Airflow, dbt, or comparable data orchestration and integration platforms.
  • Familiarity with data lakes, business intelligence systems, and iPaaS platforms is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and fundamental accounting principles is a plus.
  • Strong systems and architectural thinking, with the ability to design scalable solutions while balancing performance, cost, reliability, and governance.
  • High ownership mentality, with the ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, identify solutions, and drive initiatives through to completion.
  • Experience collaborating across product, data, compliance, security, and other functions to align technical decisions with business objectives.
  • Comfortable incorporating AI into engineering workflows, including AI coding assistants, AI-enabled agents, and MCP servers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence technical and organizational decisions effectively.
  • Experience working within Scrum or Agile development environments.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Ruby on Rails, StimulusJS, Redis, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Python, and TypeScript is valuable.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary of CA$183,000–CA$251,500 annually for the applicable Canadian compensation zone, excluding potential bonus, equity, commission, and benefits.
  • Fully remote work with the flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Health and dental benefits.
  • Up to CA$2,025 toward home-office IT equipment.
  • Up to 2% employer matching toward an RRSP.
  • Learning and professional development opportunities.
  • Up to CA$67.50 toward internet or mobile phone services.
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact financial technology and AI-driven products.
  • Collaborative environment with strong opportunities for technical ownership and influence.
  • Inclusive, harassment-free, and discrimination-free workplace committed to diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
