Job Description

Facilities Engineering Team Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Facilities Engineering Team Lead based in the United States.

The Facilities Engineering Team Lead will provide technical leadership for facility performance across a major unconventional oil and gas asset.
The role combines engineering expertise, operational problem-solving, commissioning, process safety, and people leadership.
You will lead facility engineers embedded within route teams, ensuring surface equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently.
The position has direct influence on production reliability, operating costs, facility optimization, and long-term asset performance.
You will work closely with Production, Maintenance, Reliability, Construction, Commissioning, and Program Engineering teams.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity requiring both field presence and the ability to develop high-performing engineering talent.
Based in Denver with approximately 25% field travel, the role offers a high-accountability environment focused on safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities:
  • Own facility performance and optimization across the asset, focusing on equipment uptime, production deferment reduction, surface operating efficiency, and reliable production.
  • Lead and develop a team of facility engineers embedded in route teams, establishing strong technical ownership, accountability, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Drive commissioning engineering excellence by ensuring new facilities are designed for startup, optimized through first production, and successfully transitioned to steady-state operations.
  • Act as the integration point between facilities engineering and key programs including integrity management, compression optimization, flowback, chemicals, and emissions reduction.
  • Identify and resolve surface-equipment bottlenecks, reliability issues, and operational risks through rigorous engineering analysis and practical field solutions.
  • Support process safety activities including Management of Change, risk assessments, HAZOPs, process safety information, design reviews, and barrier management.
  • Partner with Construction and Maintenance to prioritize facility repairs and modifications, providing engineering guidance on immediate interventions and longer-term solutions.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, root-cause failure analyses, and corrective-action programs related to facility events.
  • Provide visible technical and safety leadership through field engagement, route reviews, production meetings, and direct collaboration with operators and production teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in facility design, operations, reliability, and cost performance while maintaining high standards for safety and technical quality.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, Civil, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in oil and gas production operations, facilities engineering, or upstream engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with surface production facilities, including separators, compression, metering, flowlines, tank batteries, SCADA/controls, and related equipment.
  • Strong understanding of unconventional, multi-well pad development, ideally with experience in the Permian Basin or a comparable operating environment.
  • Proven commissioning experience spanning engineering walkdowns, startup, first production, optimization, and transition to steady-state operations.
  • Working knowledge of process safety fundamentals, including MOC, HAZOP, process safety information, and mechanical integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex facility problems in the field and develop engineered solutions rather than temporary fixes.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience coaching, developing, and holding technical professionals accountable for results.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the credibility to work effectively across engineering, operations, maintenance, construction, and other functions.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on environment with approximately 25% field travel.
  • Self-motivated, decisive, and comfortable taking ownership and making sound decisions when information is incomplete.
  • Experience with PI System/PI Vision, SCADA analysis, integrity management, fitness-for-service, inspection planning, brownfield capital projects, or artificial lift systems is advantageous.
  • Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the United States without current or future employment visa sponsorship.
  • The position is based in Denver and follows a hybrid office/remote working model; relocation assistance is not provided.
Benefits
  • Base salary range of $206,000–$242,000 USD, depending on applicable factors and the compensation framework for the role.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off.
  • Discretionary annual bonus program.
  • Long-term incentive program.
  • 401(k) matching program.
  • Hybrid office/remote working arrangement.
  • Opportunities for professional growth, technical development, and leadership within a large-scale energy environment.
  • Reasonable workplace accommodations available for qualified individuals throughout the recruitment and employment process.
