This is a strategic medical leadership role overseeing a high-performing, geographically distributed Medical Science Liaison team supporting a specialized Burn Care franchise.
You’ll shape field medical strategy, strengthen scientific engagement, and translate insights from healthcare professionals and clinical experts into actionable medical priorities.
The role combines people leadership with selective field engagement, giving you the opportunity to influence both team performance and external scientific relationships.
You’ll collaborate closely with Clinical Development, Medical Communications, Regulatory, Commercial, Market Access, R&D, and other cross-functional teams.
You’ll help advance evidence generation, medical education, publications, research initiatives, and lifecycle strategies while maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity and compliance.

The position is remote within the U.S., with up to 60% travel and a preference for candidates located in the Midwest near a major airport.

• Lead the execution of Burn Care Medical Affairs strategies covering education, publications, research, scientific engagement, and broader franchise priorities through a high-performing MSL team.
• Establish clear objectives, priorities, performance expectations, and operating practices that promote scientific excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Recruit, coach, mentor, develop, and retain a geographically dispersed team of Medical Science Liaisons, including conducting performance evaluations and supporting career development.
• Monitor field activity, productivity, quality, and customer engagement to ensure consistent execution of medical priorities across territories.
• Optimize field coverage, workload distribution, and resource allocation while balancing team leadership responsibilities with selective direct field engagement.
• Translate insights from KOLs, investigators, healthcare professionals, and industry leaders into recommendations that inform evidence generation, publication planning, medical education, and lifecycle management.
• Maintain strong scientific relationships with KOLs, investigators, burn centers, healthcare professionals, and professional societies.
• Guide external scientific engagement strategies and represent the organization at relevant scientific meetings, advisory boards, medical congresses, and other industry forums.
• Provide direct field medical support in designated geographies when required by business needs, organizational growth, territory vacancies, or changing priorities.
• Partner cross-functionally with Clinical Development, Medical Communications, Commercial, Marketing, Market Access, Regulatory Affairs, R&D, and Clinical Operations while maintaining the scientific independence of Medical Affairs.
• Ensure field medical activities, scientific exchanges, education initiatives, documentation, and stakeholder interactions comply with applicable regulatory, industry, and organizational standards.
• Support publication activities, investigator-sponsored research processes, medical planning, and scientific communications.
• Oversee reporting on field medical activities, including monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reporting and analysis.
• Analyze medical insights, competitive intelligence, and marketplace trends to identify opportunities, risks, and strategic priorities.
• Develop meaningful performance metrics and dashboards to demonstrate the impact and effectiveness of field medical activities.
• Drive continuous improvement across Medical Affairs processes, field operations, and organizational effectiveness, recommending resources and organizational strategies to support franchise growth.

• Advanced clinical or scientific degree such as MD, PharmD, PhD, MSN, NP, PA, DNP, or equivalent.
• At least 7 years of progressive Medical Affairs experience, including significant experience in a field-based Medical Science Liaison role.
• Previous people-management experience leading field-based medical teams.
• Demonstrated expertise in burn care, wound care, surgery, regenerative medicine, cell therapy, or a closely related therapeutic area.
• Strong understanding of Medical Affairs regulations, scientific exchange principles, and compliant engagement with healthcare professionals.
• Proven ability to translate complex scientific information and field insights into clear strategic recommendations.
• Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring, communication, project management, analytical, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed field medical teams is preferred.
• Experience with regenerative medicine, biologics, cell therapies, or other advanced therapies is preferred.
• Familiarity with Veeva CRM and Medical Affairs analytics is advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional initiatives, organizational change, and continuous improvement efforts is preferred.
• Ability to build credible relationships with KOLs, investigators, healthcare professionals, and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, field-based environment while maintaining strong organization, accountability, and responsiveness.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 60%, including overnight and occasional weekend travel.
• Residence within reasonable proximity to a major airport.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain required hospital credentialing.
• Willingness to attend surgical procedures, scientific meetings, and other relevant field activities.
• Ability to lift and transport educational materials, instrument trays, and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

• Expected compensation range of $185,000–$195,000, with commission-based compensation.
