Position Overview

The Office Assistant will serve as a support staff member in the Main Office of the High School. Along with the Office Manager, the Office Assistant is responsible for clerical and administrative duties as assigned by school leadership. This position works closely with the Principal, Assistant Principals, Academic Deans, teachers, and other student support staff to assist in the success of our scholars. This position reports directly to and works collaboratively with the Principal.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Greeting, directing, and assisting visitors
  • Answering incoming phone calls and email inquiries
  • Scheduling conference room and media center reservations
  • Sorting and distributing incoming mail
  • Printing and mailing progress reports, report cards and attendance letters
  • Producing correspondence to be disseminated to families and community-based organizations
  • Daily Announcements
  • Scheduling maintenance and service of copiers
  • Ordering, keeping inventory, and storing basic office supplies
  • Procuring unique office supplies via the Help Desk for staff members
  • Completing the process for students' early departure
  • Preparing daily documentation for substitute teachers
  • Creating and storing office forms and high school staff directories
  • Designing and updating an electronic sign using Optec Displays and Smart Sign
  • Assisting with school and community events
  • Serving in the capacity of the Office Manager in their absence
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and accomplish specific tasks as requested
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with instructional and administrative staff
  • Ability to intervene in elevated student behavior events;
  • Ability to climb stairs and spend long periods of time walking and standing;
  • Ability to meet the physical rigors of TACT2 training strategies
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality surrounding sensitive student information
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and supportive relationships with students with the objective of supporting their educational goals
  • Demonstrates team spirit, initiative, and a willingness to collaborate with all members of the school community

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalency (required)
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree (preferred)
  • Two or more years of experience working with opportunity youth in an educational setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Documents, and email
  • Experience with socio-emotional learning, behavior management, and restorative justice principles and practices preferred
  • Strong collaboration skills with colleagues in different departments
  • Managerial and customer service experience preferred

Maya Angelou Schools and See Forever Foundation salaries are comparable to those of other public charter schools in the District of Columbia area. The pay range for this role is:
50,000 - 55,000 USD per year(MAPCS HS)
