Job Description
Second Shift Plant Operations Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership & Production Management
- Execute production plans, prioritize shift work, and assign resources efficiently.
- Ensure employee safety by adhering to occupational safety regulations, aiming for zero injuries.
- Collaborate with management to optimize equipment and improve employee safety, product quality, and equipment reliability.
- Maintain high levels of communication and morale among team members.
- Meet production goals while maintaining optimal yields, quality, and safety.
- Prepare reports on production results, KPI status and Root Cause Analysis.
- Maintenance Management
- Oversee all maintenance activities for the facility, including mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and equipment reliability.
- Work with the Maintenance Team to implement preventive maintenance schedules and minimize downtime.
- Ensure proper operation, cleaning, and lubrication of plant equipment, and assist in training production teams on maintenance procedures.
- Plan and manage maintenance outage work to avoid production disruptions.
- Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with safety laws, regulations, and sound practices.
- Act as a role model for safety, ensuring unsafe conditions or behaviors are corrected promptly.
- Participate in audits and contribute to safety and environmental program development.
- Sanitation & Food Safety
- Ensure the facility maintains world-class sanitation standards.
- Assist with food safety, sanitation, and quality programs and ensure compliance with audits from regulatory bodies or customers.
- Team Development & Employee Engagement
- Actively coach and develop employees, building a high-performance team.
- Foster accountability and ownership at all levels, providing consistent and constructive feedback.
- Promote continuous learning, especially focused on safety practices and precision skills.
- Maintain discipline within the department, documenting unusual or unacceptable behaviors.
- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work collaboratively production, and other management teams.
- Demonstrate problem-solving abilities by understanding team needs and constraints to provide effective solutions.
- Facilitate communication and build relationships across various teams to deliver results.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: A four-year degree in a technical field (engineering preferred) and a minimum of four years of supervisory experience, or at least ten years of hands-on production leadership experience.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, drive safety culture, and improve production processes.
- Technical Expertise: Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical/electrical expertise in maintaining production systems.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- Safety Leadership: Proven track record of fostering a safety-first culture.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to think strategically and solve problems while considering the constraints and needs of multiple functions.
- Teamwork & Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to work well within teams, build trust, and communicate effectively.
- Proficiency: Must be proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and ERP systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to perform tasks that require physical motion, including climbing stairs and ladders and working at heights.
- Flexibility to work in various conditions, including dusty, noisy, or potentially hazardous environments.
