Position Information


Under the leadership and supervision of the Director of CHASS Academic Personnel the Assistant Director serves as a critical member on the CHASS Academic Personnel team and will oversee a team of analysts fulfilling the portfolio of AP actions including appointments, reappointments, merits, promotions, retentions and leaves. The Assistant Director will participate in strategic planning, perform in depth analysis of policies and procedures and formulate recommendations in a wide variety of academic personnel areas. This position supervises 3 staff supporting the processes for 13 departments and is responsible for ensuring timelines are met and files are in compliance with policies and procedures. The Assistant Director will provide a high level of customer service and support on complex issues to the Dean, Associate Deans, department chairs and staff within CHASS.The full salary range for the Assistant Director of Academic Personnel for the Social Sciences is $93,200 - $174,200 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needsApplicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Required6 - 10 years of related experience. RequiredPrevious experience working closely with faculty in a higher education institution. PreferredPrevious supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred Minimum Requirements Requires strong knowledge of organization and system academic HRpolicies, guidelines, and procedures. Requires political acumen and risk management awareness to prevent potentially litigious personnel actions. Comprehensive understanding of the academic review process. Able to provide guidance and coaching of process and policies to individual academics, unit management, and various committee groups. Able to interpret complex academic HR policies and procedures with risk management exposure to the organization. Strong decision making, analytical, problem solving, critical thinking, and resource management skills. Superior communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate using tact and diplomacy. Demonstrated experience with employee and labor relations issues including interpretation of applicable laws, regulations, policies,and contracts. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge of policies and procedures in Academic Personnel for the UC system including APM, CALL, Unit 18. Knowledge of Affirmative Action and Recruitment guidelines.Knowledge of campus Academic Personnel applications, AP Recruit.
