About This Position
JOB PURPOSE
The Mold Maker is responsible for the machining, fabrication, repair, and preventive maintenance of all Micron Products injection molds. This role supports ongoing mold performance, engineering changes, and new mold development to ensure reliable, high‑quality production in a medical device manufacturing environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical input to the quoting team on mold designs and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional personnel in routing, planning, work instructions, problem solving, and expediting molds and components for assigned jobs.
- Accurately record and log work time to appropriate jobs.
- Develop work plans, identify risks, set priorities and milestone goals, assess progress regularly, and escalate any issues that may affect delivery schedules.
- Use knowledge of steel types (H13, SS, S7, P20, etc.) and hardness levels to determine appropriate machining strategies and equipment.
- Set up and operate tool room equipment—including CNC machines, milling machines, lathes, and EDM—to produce components to tight tolerances.
- Interpret blueprints, CAD files, and written or verbal instructions to machine mold components accurately.
- Fabricate mold components such as cores, cavities, and ejector systems; perform finish machining, and grinding to achieve required dimensions and specifications.
- Operate all equipment safely and in accordance with training and established safety standards.
- Monitor incoming components for assigned molds and coordinate with Purchasing to ensure material availability aligns with job schedules.
Mold Assembly, Testing & Troubleshooting
- Assemble molds and prepare them for testing, verifying proper fit and functionality of all mechanisms, sliding components, and cooling circuits.
- Perform inspections of cores, cavities, and seal‑off areas to confirm dimensional accuracy, finish quality, and functional readiness.
- Troubleshoot issues during assembly, testing, or production, and develop corrective action plans.
- Adjust final fits and components to ensure molds meet performance requirements.
- Document critical dimensions, adjustments, and necessary updates.
- Perform mold disassembly, repair, fine‑tuning, and engineering changes; assist with mold cleaning and general mold maintenance as needed.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Support
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance mold‑making processes and overall operations.
- Maintain accurate tooling inventory.
- Provide technical support and guidance to the molding department and maintenance teams.
- Ensure compliance with all molding‑related procedures, policies, and quality standards.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Technical Trade School Certification preferred
- 5+ years of experience with machine tools, mold design, and mold fabrication
- Strong mathematical skills related to part geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and CAD drawings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across different levels of the organization
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Dependable, self-directed, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and experienced with ERP/MRP systems
- Basic SolidWorks experience preferred
- Experience with Mastercam and or hyperMILL
