Inter Miami CF (IMCF or the Club) is a Major League Soccer club competing in the Eastern Conference, owned by Miami Beckham United and playing at its newly developed permanent stadium (Nu Stadium) at Miami Freedom Park, a 25,000-seat stadium within a 131-acre master-planned site featuring a 55-acre public park, structured parking, and over one million square feet of mixed-use retail, entertainment, commercial, and hospitality development. The Club operates a growing and complex business spanning professional sports, live events, stadium operations, retail, food and beverage, sponsorships, and media which is supported by a lean Finance and Accounting function responsible for accounting, financial planning and analysis, cash management, and investor relations across multiple legal entities.
Position Summary
The Director, Strategic Finance is the organization’s senior financial planning and analysis (FP&A) leader, serving as the right hand to the Chief Financial Officer on all matters related to budgeting, forecasting, treasury, investor relations, management reporting, and strategic decision support. This role owns the full FP&A function and is accountable for translating the club’s financial data into actionable intelligence that drives executive and ownership decision-making.
With the opening of Miami Freedom Park, the expansion of revenue verticals (stadium events, F&B, naming rights, retail), and the growing complexity of the organization’s capital structure, this role is critical to scaling IMCF’s financial infrastructure. The Director, Strategic Finance will build repeatable planning systems, lead the development of new reporting capabilities, and serve as the primary finance liaison to lenders, investors, and cross-functional department leaders.
In addition to core FP&A deliverables, the Director, Strategic Finance will supervise specific cross-functional and high-impact projects, architecting and overseeing high-priority, high-visibility initiatives, assembling cross-functional resources, and delivering executive- and ownership-quality outcomes on defined timelines. This component of the role will be project-based by design and each assignment will have a clear scope, defined deliverables, and a documented handoff to the appropriate functional owner upon completion.
The inaugural project portfolio will be drawn from the department's strategic priority backlog and may include retail merchandise inventory and operations procedures, end-to-end finance and accounting process documentation and standardization, enterprise automation and technology enablement, MLS season calendar conversion evaluation and readiness, and other ad-hoc initiatives as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.
This role will carry direct reports and will additionally lead informally through designing and resourcing project teams, coordinating cross-departmental workstreams, and driving accountability across contributors who do not report to this position. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable leading a room of senior stakeholders and building detailed process documents.
The Director, Strategic Finance will serves as a trusted financial partner across the organization, translating complex financial data into clear, compelling narratives that inform decision-making at every level, from frontline managers to the executive team and Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A):- Own the annual budgeting process across all entities including guidance issuance, departmental coordination, model construction, and board-ready deliverables.
- Lead quarterly forecasting cycles, including actualization of year-to-date results and development of year-to-go scenarios with clear identification of risks and opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a forecast tracker (risks and opportunities) on a weekly basis to surface budget risks for subsequent forecast or scenario analysis.
- Build and maintain the consolidated and entity level 3/5-year strategic financial models for the various investor groups.
- Deliver monthly department reporting with intelligent variance analysis and commentary for each cost center.
- Deliver monthly and weekly revenue reporting, including matchday flash reports, ticketing sell-through, sponsorship, F&B, retail, and events economics.
- Develop and maintain cost reporting verticals: headcount, software, travel (first team, second team/academy), capital expenditure, and matchday/stadium operating expenses.
- Own sponsorship contract pro forma modeling, look-back analysis, agency commission tracking, and any business-back reporting.
- Own events pro forma modeling, look-back/settlement analysis, and ticket platform fee reporting.
- Create and maintain a capital expenditure pro forma and look-back reporting framework for ad-hoc and recurring capital expenditures.
- Facilitates detailed quarterly business revenues across critical strategic priorities and revenue areas of the business (e.g., merchandise retail).
- Own the 4-, 13-, and 20-week rolling cash flow forecasts, including weekly actualization and variance reporting.
- Assist in any capital call process to ownership, partnering with the CFO on funds flow, timing, amounts, and valuations, as necessary.
- Own debt covenant compliance program (forward- and retro-looking) including the distribution of loan compliance packets for the relevant borrowing entities.
- Partner with the Sr. Director, Controller and Sr. AP/AR Clerk on aged payables and receivables reporting to optimize working capital.
- Provide cash flow visibility and scenario analysis to support executive decision-making around capital calls, distributions, and project funding.
- Enhance and manage tools related to managing player acquisition cash flows for both inbound and outbound transfers, ensuring payment timing and complete collections.
- Evaluate and identify cost optimization opportunities where appropriate to drive cash recurring cash expenditure reductions.
- Support the Chief Financial Officer in response to investor and lender inquiries, due diligence requests, and ongoing reporting obligations.
- Assist the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation and delivery of quarterly Board of Directors financial support packages.
- Support equity investor relationship management, including communications, reporting, and transaction structuring.
- Own the weekly post-matchday MLS Game Statements submission and reporting as part of the overarching post-matchday flash reporting process.
- Partner with the Senior Director, Controller in the submission of the annual MLS Team Financial Report, MLS Club Budget/Projections, MLS Revenue Projections, and any ad-hoc MLS League Office finance and accounting reporting requests.
- Manage the MLS Ticket Revenue Audit process and related compliance documentation.
- Lead or cross-functional strategic finance initiatives, including but not limited to: ROI analysis for special events, profitability modeling, investment decision support, and new business-line financial architecture.
- Drive the implementation of new reporting capabilities as the organization scales (e.g., retail inventory reporting, stadium operating expense frameworks, F&B review cadence).
- Partner with the CFO and Controller on system optimization projects (ERP, Accounts Payable, Credit Cards, Ticketing, HRIS) as they relate to FP&A data integrity and reporting.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of automation and artificial intelligence tools to drive functional and organizational efficiencies.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, management consulting, or corporate strategy, with significant exposure to cross-functional project leadership.
- Demonstrated experience building and managing full-cycle budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes.
- Deep proficiency in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and variance analysis across the financial statements (e.g., Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow).
- Experience managing lender reporting, debt covenant compliance, and investor-facing financial communications.
- Proven track record managing and developing a small, high-performing team.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial audiences, ownership groups, and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume deliverable calendar across multiple entities and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated track record of leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects from scoping and problem definition through implementation and handoff.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to identify, quantify, and communicate financial risks and opportunities to senior leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a bias toward structured, data-driven decision-making.
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to define structure, process, and controls where none currently exist.
- Bias towards initiative, is resourceful and solutions-oriented, and can break down complex problems into digestible, actionable components.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and project management tools (e.g., Visio).
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
Preferred Experience:
- MBA, CPA, or other relevant advanced degree or professional certification.
- Prior experience at a management consulting firm (Big Four advisory, or similar strategy/operations consultancy practice) with a demonstrated track record of structured problem-solving, client-ready deliverable production, and cross-functional engagement; experience in internal corporate strategy/transformation roles also highly relevant.
- Experience with retail operations, inventory management, supply chain processes, or merchandise operations.
- Background in sports, entertainment, hospitality, or venue management industries or demonstrable experience consulting in the space.
- Experience with multi-entity organizational structures and intercompany accounting considerations.
- Exposure to MLS or professional sports league compliance, reporting, and financial frameworks.
- Experience designing SOPs and operational playbooks for finance teams in high-growth environments.
