At Valley Oak SPCA Veterinary Clinic, we provide high-quality, high-volume, and affordable services including spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, exams, dental procedures, mass removals, and select specialty surgeries. We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and is confident supporting both vaccine clinics and surgical procedures.
Position OverviewThis is a hands-on clinical role supporting both our high-volume vaccine clinic and surgical team. The ideal candidate is skilled, efficient, and confident in patient handling, with a strong foundation in veterinary assistant duties. This is not an entry-level position—we are looking for someone who can contribute meaningfully from day one.
Compensation: $17.50–$19.00 per hour, based on experience, skill level, and ability to perform required veterinary assistant duties independently.
Key ResponsibilitiesVaccine Clinic & Outpatient Care
• Safely restrain dogs and cats for exams and treatments
• Administer vaccines and injectable treatments under veterinary direction
• Provide flea/tick prevention and deworming treatments
• Perform nail trims and other routine outpatient services
• Educate clients on vaccines, preventatives, and basic care protocols
Surgical Support
• Prepare patients for surgery (shaving, scrubbing, and surgical site prep)
• Assist with induction and monitor patients under anesthesia
• Support the veterinarian during surgical procedures
• Monitor and recover patients post-operatively
• Maintain accurate treatment and monitoring records
Clinical & General Support
• Assist veterinarians during exams and diagnostics
• Collect samples, draw blood, and place catheters
• Clean, maintain, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary clinic environment
• Follow established clinic protocols and adapt to workflow needs
• Minimum 1.5+ years of veterinary assistant experience (required)
• Hands-on experience with vaccines, animal restraint, and basic treatments
• Surgical experience including prep, monitoring, and recovery strongly preferred
• Working knowledge of vaccine protocols and preventative care
• Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume setting
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality
• Adaptable, coachable, and team-oriented mindset
• Comfortable working with both cats and dogs in a fast-paced environment
• Availability to work Saturdays and occasional evenings until 9:00 PM
Preferred (but not required):
• HQHVSN experience
• Veterinary Technician Certification (R.V.T)
• Bilingual
