Job Description

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Oversee, develop, coordinate and provide wellness (aquatics/fitness) services to past patients/clients and participants who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease or other causes. Restore, remediate, or rehabilitate in order to improve functioning and independence, as well as reduce or eliminate the effects of illness or disability. Provides recreation resources and opportunities in order to improve health and well being.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • SUPERVISORY/LEAD FUNCTIONS:
      • Mentors, counsels and develops staff
      • Develops leadership skills
      • Contributes to assigned Performance Development Plans (PDPs)
      • Assures adequate staff coverage to meet regulatory requirements
      • Identifies & resolves daily operational issues
      • Assists with the development of operational budgets
      • Assist with controlling expenses and works towards financial targets
      • Embraces and implements new processes and techniques
      • Markets programs and develops referrals as assigned
    • CLINICAL SKILLS
      • Delivers quality care and services
      • Pursues educational opportunities
      • Shares knowledge with others
      • Uses a wide variety of techniques & technologies
      • Customizes treatment & communications to individual client’s needs (IE cultural & cognitive)
      • Provides educational and home instructions
    • DOCUMENTATION
      • Assures medical release information is correct and complete, where appropriate
      • Advertises and promotes classes and membership
      • Keeps accurate records of class and pool attendance
      • Maintains correspondence and documentation for external instructors
    • TEAM EFFORT
      • Adheres to productivity standard
      • Efficiently & effectively schedules clients
      • Demonstrates flexibility to help others (IE provide coverage, adjust work schedule to meet needs, assist others to cover clients)

    • COMPLIES WITH FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL LEGAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
      • By understanding and adhering to current standards of practice and code of ethics for recreational therapy as established by the American Therapeutic Recreation Association.
      • Also, understands and adheres to standards of practice and code of ethics for American Council on Exercise (for fitness programs), as well as Aquatic Exercise Association (for aquatic programs).

      • By securing all information in confidential space, following facility confidentiality policy.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
      • Education
        • Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation or Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation required
      • Work Experience
        • 2-4 years of clinical experience in physical rehabilitation preferred
        • Previous experience with teaching group aquatic/fitness wellness programs for persons with disabilities preferred
      • Licenses / Certifications
        • Basic Life Support / CPR, as a healthcare provider, per the American Heart Association required
        • Certified by National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) required
        • WSI Certification-Adapted Aquatics Experience-Ai Chi Certification or other aquatic group programACE or AFAA Certification as an Aerobics Instructor, personal trainer, clinical exercise specialist required
