About the Position

As an Independent Living Skills (ILS) Instructor, you will work one-on-one with adults with developmental disabilities to help them develop the skills necessary to live independently. You will provide individualized training in areas such as personal care, home management, and social skills. Your role is to empower clients to lead fulfilling and independent lives, contributing to their personal growth and overall well-being. What You’ll Do:

  • Individualized Skill Development: Provide tailored training to clients to enhance their personal, social, and practical life skills, with a focus on promoting independence.
  • Support Client Growth: Assist clients in achieving their goals through personalized support, ensuring they acquire skills to live successfully and autonomously in the community.
  • Ongoing Support: Maintain regular contact with clients to monitor progress, address challenges, and adjust teaching strategies as needed to promote continued development.
  • Transportation Support: Use your reliable personal vehicle to transport clients (including children) to and from appointments, shopping, and community activities as needed.
  • Community Integration: Facilitate the integration of clients into the community by encouraging social interactions and helping them build meaningful connections.
  • Collaborative Approach: Work alongside families and other support professionals to ensure clients have the tools and resources they need to succeed.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks efficiently, including timely submission of paperwork and documentation to ensure smooth client progress tracking.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail, ensuring all client records, progress reports, and related paperwork are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Experience or Desire for coaching is beneficial. We also welcome candidates who are eager to develop these skills and make a difference in the lives of others.
  • Educational Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; experience or certifications in social services, education, or related fields are a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel locally to meet with clients, partners, or attend events, if applicable.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including office and community settings.
  • Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • May require occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs), standing, walking, or assisting individuals with mobility needs, if applicable.

Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation for transportation of clients in personal vehicle (gas mileage reimbursed)
  • Valid CA driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and DMV report
  • All potential candidates must pass a background check, drug test, and TB test
  • Fully vaccinated and boosted – OR - weekly proof of negative test (tests not provided by The Arc of Butte County)
