Job Description

Description: Surgery Veterinary Technician

True.Vet Heartland is looking for a Surgery Veterinary Technician who wants to be part of a team that is building something different.

This role is ideal for a technician who loves surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, patient care, and being part of a fast-moving hospital where the team is trusted to use their skills. We are looking for someone who takes pride in high-quality medicine, clear communication, strong organization, and calm execution in the operating room.

At True.Vet, our goal is to reimagine veterinary care by creating a workplace where technicians are empowered, veterinarians are supported, and clients feel genuinely cared for. Surgery is a major part of that vision. We are not looking for someone who simply “helps in surgery.” We are looking for a technician who wants to own the surgery flow, protect the patient experience, support the doctor, and help build a surgical department that can scale.

Responsibilities

The Surgery Veterinary Technician will assist with surgical and dental procedures from start to finish, including:

  • Preparing patients for surgery and dentistry
  • Placing IV catheters
  • Running pre-anesthetic diagnostics
  • Calculating and administering medications under veterinary direction
  • Inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthetic patients
  • Maintaining accurate anesthetic records
  • Assisting during soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, dentistry, and urgent procedures
  • Preparing surgical packs, instruments, and equipment
  • Maintaining sterile technique and surgical suite readiness
  • Taking dental radiographs and assisting with dental cleanings and extractions
  • Communicating with the veterinarian about patient status and anesthetic concerns
  • Supporting client communication before and after procedures
  • Helping create and improve surgery protocols, checklists, and workflows
  • Keeping the surgery area clean, stocked, organized, and ready for the next case
What We Are Looking For

The right candidate is confident, calm, detail-oriented, and serious about patient safety. You do not need to know everything, but you do need to care deeply, take ownership, and want to keep improving.

Ideal qualities include:

  • Strong anesthesia monitoring skills
  • Comfort with surgical preparation and recovery
  • Interest in dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and orthopedic procedures
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the doctor and patient
  • Excellent communication with doctors, technicians, assistants, and client concierge team members
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A team-first attitude
  • Willingness to learn, teach, and help build better systems
  • Ability to stay calm during urgent or high-pressure situations
  • Pride in creating a smooth, safe, and efficient surgery experience
Why Join True.Vet

True.Vet is an independent veterinary hospital built around access to care, team empowerment, and professional growth. We believe technicians should be used to the top of their abilities and given room to grow into leadership, training, advanced patient care, and future opportunities within the organization.

This is a great fit for someone who wants more than a job. It is for someone who wants to help build the surgery department, improve patient care, and be part of a hospital that values skill, ownership, and growth.

Compensation

Compensation is based on experience, skill level, certification, and surgical capabilities.

Schedule

Full-time preferred. Surgery-focused schedule with some flexibility based on hospital needs.

Requirements:
  • Prior veterinary technician or assistant experience required
  • Surgical and anesthesia experience strongly preferred
  • CVT preferred but not required
  • Dentistry experience preferred
  • Orthopedic surgery experience is a plus, but not required
  • Must be comfortable with technology and electronic medical records
