Position Statement
A successful OR LPN is one who is meticulous and detailed oriented. One should be caring, compassionate and have knowledge of the aspects of surgical procedures. The LPN should have a broad knowledge of all age populations, recognizing normal and abnormal presentation of the patient. The Surgical LPN will adhere to the AORN standards of care and recommendations.
Key Responsibilities:
- The LPN in the Operating room will function as a scrub tech.
- Assisting in the preparing of the supplies and equipment for surgical cases.
- LPN will play an integral role in the sterile team, creating and maintaining a sterile field in coordination with the circulator in the OR.
- The LPN will anticipate the needs of the surgeon during a procedure.
- The LPN will work in conjunction with the RN in the room for transporting, positioning, prepping the patient and specimen management.
- Post procedure the LPN is responsible for the care and handling of the instruments in preparation for sending the instruments to CSPD to be processed.
- Operating and monitoring medical equipment
- Identifying any complications or emergencies and responding swiftly
- Maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly tasks in our Endoscopy Suite.
- Leading the instruments and soft counts for all procedures, adhering to best practice.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- LPN license
- Current and unrestricted License Practical Nurse LPN license.
- Strong clinical assessment and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of anatomy
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and a positive birthing experience.
