Dining Services at Independence Health System – Perryville, Missouri

SUMMARY: Assist in food preparation and serving and maintain clean and sanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining areas under the supervision of the Dietary Services Manager or Cook.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist in the preparation and serving of meals and snacks, using portion control procedures.
2. Assist in cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment and floors, dishes, and utensils.
3. Assist in checking trays for menu and diet preferences and accuracy.
4. Ensure proper storage of foods and supplies.
5. Adhere to universal precautions and sanitary and infection control policies and procedures.
6. Ensure that food and supplies are available for the next meals and assist in inventorying and storing incoming foods and supplies, and report any hazardous conditions, equipment, accidents, and incidents.
7. Comply with all facility policies related to safety and infection control procedures including the proper use of mechanical lifts, gait belts, and personal protective back supports.
8. Understand, comply with, and promote all rules and regulations regarding residents’ rights; promote positive relationships with residents, visitors, and regulators to include presenting a professional appearance.
9. Must adhere to IHS code of conduct and Business Ethics policy, including documentation and reporting responsibilities.
10. Attend and participate in educational activities, in-service training, and other staff meetings; assist in orientation and training other staff.
11. Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.
12. Other duties as assigned or needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have the ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
2. Must meet all local health regulations.
3. Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and to work cooperatively with fellow employees.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must be able to stand on feet for most of shift, grasp, reach, bend, lift to 40 lbs., and move intermittently during working hours using fine hand coordination and good body mechanics.
2. Must have the ability to distinguish smells, tastes, and temperatures.
3. Must be able to communicate with residents and others.
4. Must have the ability to remain calm in emergency situations and when handling multiple tasks.
